250GB will allow you to.... Send 50 million emails (at 0.05 KB/email) Download 62,500 songs (at 4 MB/song) Download 125 standard-definition movies (at 2 GB/movie) Upload 25,000 hi-resolution digital photos (at 10 MB/photo) How can you get anywhere near that?

[QUOTE="JasonDarksavior"]I have 150 GB and always go past it and get capped. Probably due to all the online gaming I do.JasonDarksavior

I know someone mentioned that "everything" counts - but online Gaming couldn't be counting? I put in atleast 20-30hrs a week .

I'm sure it counts for me, cause I hardly download anything at all. Just GS Forums + Facebook + Online Gaming is what I use my net for.

Yes. Any little piece of data that comes from that wire sticking out of your wall counts.

Bandiwdth is everything you do on the internet.... Online gaming isn't much considering you're just telling the server what buttons you click and where you are at all times. You probably use more just loading up all the images and such on GS :P

Ya know - It sucks that the Pirates out there Had to Ruin it for the rest of us. . Appearantly there are some Unlimited Download Packages - but that doesnt help those of us who cant afford such a thing..SO in this case, it doesnt help against Pirating at all..?

Every internet provider has limits -- it's hidden in the TOS. Some just don't tell you what they are (the TOS just states excessive usage) and surprise you with a bill, a nasty phone call, or cut off your service.

Frakkin' hell. I only get a 50GB quota per month. Damn Australia! :(synyster-666
That's a little? I had a 6GB monthly cap before, now I got 11GB. It'd be ok for me, but this is for a family of 4! :(

I think the era of streaming HD content and online gaming was just as influential.

Think of a home with a couple of teens who are gamers. That PS3 is sucking up data usage when a game is downloaded, patched, or played online. If they are PC gamers, chances are most the games they are buying, at 7-14GB a pop, are not in DVD form, but are being downloaded from Steam or similar forms such as Direct2Drive.

Even mom and dad are surfing the web, watching videos, buying music, and streaming videos from Netflix.

I dont see why Streaming Video would influence that? I believe the idea was to Decrease the amount of Pirates out there Downloading movies, movies and games - and whatever else they are known to rip off. Atleast Streaming Videos, gaming, patches, email and such are all legal..And especially these days - with the popularity of Netflix and similar Movie streaming, the need for High limit internet is much more in need. The net providers should come up with a better way of tracking pirates. Or, possiblyTracking which sites or Flagging only the Good sites like Netflix-something like that, and exclude some things from being Limited..

Many times. Back when I was with Telus (ugh) they had a 60GB monthly limit. After subscribing to a number of HD TV shows on iTunes and hitting a huge fall D2D and Steam sale, I managed to pull down 230GB of data one month. They cut off my internet connection entirely and made me call in to get it enabled again, then threatened to disable me for an entire month if I did it again. So I switched to Shaw, have a 150GB monthly cap and according to many people online it's not enforced at all.

It's marketed as 'unlimited', which actually means 100GB. I hate ISPs. Lying bastards.

ISPs don't care about pirating.

It doesn't effect their bottom line if something being downloaded was paid for or not. I'm saying that the reason they are doing this is not because they want to stop pirating, but because of high data usage in general.
Bandwidth usage is increasing faster than infrastructure is being built to supply it.
