But there is the fact that evolution occurs. The theory only explains how it happens. You just seem to have this weird notion that there's 'kinds' of animals, a notion that isn't held by scientists.

Sigh give me an example of Macro evolution happening, not Variation within kinds. And the kinds notion is held with me and many others and it is currently a fact, actually.

Fine, show me your reputable science book that defines the word 'kind' as it relates to animals.

You don't need a science book to know that a bird gives birth to a bird and a dog gives birth to a dog...

Then why are people getting more and more stupid with each passing generation? Take a look at a 2nd grade school book from 1805. A senior in highschool could barely read that thing nowadays. De-Evolution occurs. Things degrade.

You don't get it do you. Stop trying to tell me Evolution is a fact when it is not.

Thats what you don't understand. It is fact! And there is more than enough proof to say that it is. There is no contradiction to Evolution, that I know of at any rate.

I believe in evolution. It is the most logical definition as to why we are who we are, and where we may be going.

Macro evolution is not fact, Micro is. I don't see you're all point.

Scientific fact is defined as something we can observe and test on. Sure not all things in science can be observed but most can. and evolution should be. But we have never seen a dog give birth to cat (just an example).

You insist on saying Evolution is fact, which is true ,only in variations in kinds. a bird gives birht to bird and so on.

Frankly, whether or not you think evolution happens is irrelevant. It is known that variation occurs and the theory of evolution (a highly regarded and rigorously tested theory) points towards speciation occuring to explain the amazing diversity of life on the planet

mohfrontline, evolution doesn't neccesarily mean animals get stronger, faster or smarter, they just get better suited to their environment so there is no such thing as de-evolution

Well of course we won't see a dog give birth to a cat. what we can see is a dog give birth to a dog with a longer tail, or a shorter snout, or slightly better eyes.

You are only considering it over a generation. We look at it over MILLIONS of years. All those little changes from generation to generation add up when you look at it over a long period of time. This is evolution.

Ok then, riddle me this.

Why do humans have a vermiform appendix? It serves no purpose and can even harm and/or kill people.

What about the caecum? Part of the large intestine in many animals used for digesting tough plant material such as cellulose, so why do some carnivores have one? Why do humans have one? I don't know about you but I haven't been eating many eucalyptus leaves lately.

Could they possibly be left over appendages caused by evolution? It doesn't fit to well into the intelligent design either...

123625, man, you are crazy. Do you not support evolution to get noticed, or to be different? How would a dog give birth to a cat? Millions of years an excuse? ok then, so why did Jesus rise from the ? God doing it is just an excuse.

They are new species of birds that can no longer breed with each other, thats a new species. I dont see what the problem is. I've given you observed variation (any time a new organism is born) and speciation (galapagos finches)

Let's just say that all forms of life originated in the water from one ancestor (probably true).

There's four members in this one family of "fish."

Member A has offspring with stronger fins that help it swim faster and eat more prey.Member A's offspring is unlikely to ever leave the water because he has an advantage in the water.

Member B has offspring with gills that have a much thinner "wall" allowing oxygen to more easily enter its blood stream.Member B's offspring would likely spend time in shallow water, close to the shore, because it is better at breathing in all conditions. This could eventually lead to a species that breaths air, if the right traits are reproduced enough times.

Member C's offspring is born blind and has to find food by using its touch sensation on the ocean floor.Eventually it loses any need for eyes and develops highly sensitive "whiskers" like a cat fish.

Member D's offspring is born with leg-like appendages and dies without ever reproducing because legs don't work in the water.

There are potentially three totally different species that could come from this one family.

They are still birds just different types and kinds. Not new species. Just cause certain types can't give birth to another type, dopesnt mean they are new. THey are still birds.

You know what's funny? I was just reading an article for my Composition class and I came across this quote which, I think, sums up this entire thing about why 123625 is vehemently against evolution. 'In the present cultural climate, altering one's beliefs in response to anything (facts included) is considered a sign of weaknes.'

Hmm, i find that slightly paradoxical, because in my mind, someone who does not change their mind in the light of pure facts, without a valid reason (if one exists) gets labelled as an idiot.

Omg you know what i meant. I was talking in kinds. Stop being ignorant please. I was saying that a bird only gives birth to a bird. It didn't come from some lizard ages ago.

And i defined Kind in the most simple form yet you refuse to accept it. I don't even need to writie a book to explain it, because its so simple.

Sorry i meant where ever birds came from. Exclude that part and answer the rest of the question. I explained kind in its most simple form. You deny this?

The whole point of a debate is to pitch your idea whilst trying to think of a way to use your opponents evidence and statements in a reductio ad absurdium, that is to reduce their argument to an absurdidty. Meaning that they will have to acquire a new argument or admit defeat. It's just in these threads, some people don't play by the rules and that's when it turns into a bit of a clusterf**k.

Very much true. I still couldn't help but admire the fact that people who, despite overwhelming evidence, still stick to their original beliefs.

Did you know that Velociraptors had feathers, and were about the size of a human? In fact, apparently many dionsaurs had feathers it seems.

123625

Failed logic. Please explain to me where evolution says a lizard will give birth to a bird.

Sorry i meant what ever birds came from Exclude that part and answer the rest of the question. I explained kind its most simple form.

You did, and it's a useless definition because the term species has already been coined.

Nothing needs proven about macro evolution because there is no such thing.

Speciation has been observed in the galapagos islands in the galapagos finches

123625

Yes variation between kinds, indeed.

They are new species of birds that can no longer breed with each other, thats a new species. I dont see what the problem is. I've given you observed variation (any time a new organism is born) and speciation (galapagos finches)

They are still birds just different types and kinds. Not new species. Just cause certain types can't give birth to another type, dopesnt mean they are new. THey are still birds.

Birds aren't a species themselves. There are different species of birds.

No, don't dance around the subject. Speciation has been observed, Here, read more about it! And again, there is no "kind," there is speciation. Bird is not a species, by the way.

Only by the definition of science. Im going by what i observe.

[QUOTE="MattUD1"]You know what's funny? I was just reading an article for my Composition class and I came across this quote which, I think, sums up this entire thing about why 123625 is vehemently against evolution. 'In the present cultural climate, altering one's beliefs in response to anything (facts included) is considered a sign of weaknes.'123625

Hmm, i find that slightly paradoxical, because in my mind, someone who does not change their mind in the light of pure facts, without a valid reason (if one exists) gets labelled as an idiot.

First of all, what facts?

I could list a lot of links for you, but I am fairly confident in my assertion that you would dismiss them offhandedly, besides I prefer the logic debating rather than the biological one. I'm sure that bean-with-bacon can provide you with some facts. I do know, however that we have an appendix and a tailbone (the coccyx) A couple of fairly useless appendages there. I would like you to explain why God saw fit to give us those.

Very much true. I still couldn't help but admire the fact that people who, despite overwhelming evidence, still stick to their original beliefs.

Same here. If people placed as much dedication in their endeavours as they do in their beliefs, then we could very well have a better society.

Wtf? If you are going to try and use science to debunk evolution, you will have to play by the rules. Your definition of kinds is not valid.

Is there a difference between micro evolution and speciation?

As far as i know it, its just variation. it doesnt become anythign new.
