If you believe that all life just came into existense (by accident), and then became a fish (by accident) and because a land dweller (by accident) then became a monkey (by accident) and then evolved into a man. How does evolution explain language. There are thousands of different languages in the world. And all of them are complex with verbs nouns, punctuation and all the the complexity of languages. Even small villages which haven't "evolved" have languages just as complex as the english language or any other language. There are NO simple languages which aren't as evolved as another, each are as complex as the other. Explaination please.

That's not that difficult. Ever heard of the Continental Drift? When groups of people become isolated from each other their communication "evolves".

Southerner's in the USA speak with a slight accent over Northerner's. Now imagine a scenario where complete and total isolation (lack of modern travel such as automobiles, internet, phone) over a large area like this could lead to a more distinct variation of the original language.

I would do some research on it and delve further into this topic for you, but there is no point. This is about the worst question you could ask to prove your point. You would think that it would be self-explanatory with simple logic, but I'll let someone else pwn you, because you'll just ignore it anyway.

Well, we tried to use sign language, but it was too hard. So we started grunting, and eventually those grunts meant the same thing every time. Then the Phoenicians came and rocked our socks.

Hi. What you're looking for is Linguistics not evolution. Thanks.
Also, humans aren't the only animals with language.

one of my university modules was "The Evolution of Language"

I think I know a bit more about this subject than you do sir, and trust me when I say, that language DID evolve.

You are mistaken; languages take a variety of forms and have a variety of degrees of complexity. See the difference between written English and written Chinese for an easy refutation of your absurd argument.

Language changes over thousands of years. Scientists don't believe that we'll be speaking English within the next 10,000 years.

I completely agree. Just look at all the different dialects there are in English. Slang and word uses are also difference. Eventually the language will change into something that is not recognisable to what we see today.

1. evolution doesn't mean accidents. the genes that give a competitive advantage are selected for. hence the term Natural Selection. how the genes changed in an individual organism is random. how they carried on and evolved a species is not.

2. Language itself is not a topic of biological evolution. Origin of languages is studied in Linguistic Anthropology.

First of all, I am so sick and tired of people trying to compare evolution with how the world got created. They are two totally different things all together. Would please and I mean everyone please understand the difference!!!!!

The zealots also have placed stickers on all science textbooks in Cobb County, Georgia stating "evolution is only a theory." This is once again false, because scientific theories are not "only theories." There are heaps of evidence supporting scientific theories including gravity, evolution, etc.

I see dumb people.

I will only give you one thing. A few links.

Evolution

Language

I hope to god you take some time to read this. Unless it's considered evil or dark sided or whatever in your cult.

I simply cannot understand why the fact that things evolves and changes are so hard to understand.

Do you have any idea of large the universe is. When you consider the vast amount of space, and the infinite number of solar systems and planets, the idea that a planet with a breathable atmosphere and a temperate climate appeared is not so unbelievable.

Also your post is wrong on so many levels. I can't decide wether to consider you a troll, or just really really stupid?

AmyMizuno

I don't think he's trolling or that he's stupid. I only think that he is misinformed, and was probably force-fed various religious dogmas since birth. I've encountered a couple of people like this during my time in Georgia as well-- people who simply don't understand the principles of evolution saying something along the lines of "I didn't evolve out of a monkey!" I then have to explain to them that man didn't evolve directly out of monkeys, and that we only share a common ancestor.

The zealots also have placed stickers on all science textbooks in Cobb County, Georgia stating "evolution is only a theory." This is once again false, because scientific theories are not "only theories." There are heaps of evidence supporting scientific theories including gravity, evolution, etc.

I overreacted a bit I know. But I just get so fed up sometimes. These guys come into forums commanding us to answer this, explain that. They verbally and physically abuse other people. I have read, observed, studied and then I make a conclusion. It never seems like these people are willing to look at other alternatives. They look for cracks in science to break wide open. But they never seem to actually find anything. They are like flies trying to headbang their way trough a huge brick wall with science written all over it.

That's not the point. The point is that they were singling out evolution in order to make their argument look better. All theories in science are just that, theories. This includes cell theory, atomic theory etc. Why pick on evolution? :? It's also unnecessary since "Evolutionary theory" is actually stated inside the textbook.

Woah hey now settle down. I believe in evolution no doubt, I was just simple stating something thats all. I was just simple stating that a theory is not a fact, maybe I should of just said that and not quoting you because it had nothing to do with the person you were quoting.

Evolution isn't a fact, it's a theory. Facts are numerous and boring, theories seek to explain facts. Evolutionary theory seeks to explain facts.

Kinteic Theory

Atomic Theory

Cell Theory

Electrical Theory

They're all "just" theories right :|

I have an escape plan. If McCain gets elected president, I'm moving to Japan. To be honest, I've lost any patriotism I used to have for this country during the last 7 years. This country won't be able to survive another 4 years of Republicans, and I don't want to be here when the American empire crumbles.

Think I'm kidding you? I'm not kidding you xD. I'll be a Georgia Tech graduate soon, and Japan is always accepting young engineers.

That's rather drastic....I am definitely very critical of a lot that has been going on here in the U.S.A. However, I still believe that the U.S. is a great country, it's just represented poorly at times.

Explaination please.laidback_16
First of all, these things aren't accidents, they follow the laws of chemistry. Also Fish didn't evolve into land dwellers, they share a common ancestor, same case with fish and apes, they share a common ancestory, they don't exist on the same linear path of evolution.

I didn't really think there is much to explain with launguages, people used sounds in order to communicate, and over time these sounds progressed into more advanced launguages, alphabets, writing ect.

Evolution isn't a fact, it's a theory. Facts are numerous and boring, theories seek to explain facts. Evolutionary theory seeks to explain facts.

Kinteic Theory

Atomic Theory

Cell Theory

Electrical Theory

They're all "just" theories right :|

Most people against it make the mistake of equating scientific theory with a conspiracy theory. To even get to the theory level in science, it must have huge amounts of evidence and be almost certain to be true.
