i think Extras is better. Extras mixed drama and comedy perfectly and it was actually pretty emotional at times and a good comment on the film industry. The guest stars were great too but I thought the story was the important part.

I love the two of them, but I think The Office is better as far as comedy programs go :)

One of the reasons I prefer extras is that Stephen Merchant is in it as the agent, and he is hilarious.

The Office, it's one of the few telivision shows I actually watch. It did have some weak episodes last season, but the high points were great and I am looking forward to the start ot the sixth season tonight.

oth were absolute GENIUS. The Christmas special of Extras just blew my mind, it was SO strongly written and much better than the Office Christmas special. I think Imma go with Extras, if you haven't seen it, you simply must.

I think the OP is talking about the British version of the show in comparing it to Extras.

Either is fine I guess, though the British version is clearly superior:P

Are we talking UK or US Office? Because I haven't seen the UK version yet and the only good season on the US is Season 3.

I only saw a few episodes of Extras before it was pulled off the channel I was watching it on, so I'm going with The Office.

Hard to say, Extras is also in my top ten favorite shows of all time but I prefer The Office mainly because it has more seasons and is still on and the laugh per/ minute ratio is larger :P, Extras would of been even more amazing if it was on longer. The quest stars are so awesome, this has to be my favorite moment of the show.

I think what makes Extras different to me is how well written it is and how it develops its characters. No random pointless romances like most sitcoms, it develops andy as someone you care for at first, but then he starts to get worse and worse and you almost loathe him later on as he gets more famous. The Christmas episode expecially was very downbeat but it is one of the best tv show finales ever. I would rather it be less seasons and more quality rather than have it be stretched out and less funny. Its like Blackadder goes forth, that show had a fantastic emotional ending.

Ricky Gervais is funnier as a sleazy, unlikable boss. I can't sympathise with him as a hapless victim of circumstance as in Extras and it's the writing keeps the show afloat for me. Stephen Merchant, taking the role of the seedy agent in Extras made the show great. This date scene was just cIassic.

Yeah Stephen Merchant is fantastic. I didn't really sympathize with him later on when he became a jerk to everyone, but I think thats the point to see how he changes into the thing he hated before. i was very impressed with his acting in the christmas special, especially the big brother scene near the end.

I absolutely love both! Two of the finest sitcoms ever created, in my humble opinion. The American version of The Office is decent but really can't compare to the original.

As for which one I like the most, I'll have to say The Office - but it's so close it hurts. The only reason for my choice is that Gervais was truly brilliant as David Brent. Andy Millman just isn't as memorable as a character as Brent is. Or even Gareth is. Or Keith! :P

Garth Marenghi's character was also a really nice portrayal of someone I used to know.
