@dylandr: I didn't mind the movies...they weren't great but enjoyable on a saturday evening at home...but I already watched them, why would I want to watch it again when they didn't bother stepping it up? Everybody hates on The Amazing Spider-Man movies but to me those were better than the the Whiny-Man first trilogy, but this looks like the same movie. "Hey, let's innovate...now it's not space, it's another dimension. We changed 5 minutes of the movie, good enough, right?"
@dylandr: Yeah, I wasn't impressed by the all-CGI trailer which means that so far I haven't seen anything about the actual movie so I'll keep by excitement on the down-low for now. If they do it right it'll be great, but all it takes is for it to be a bit off and it'll be crap.
@korvus: This is why i am more pumped for the Deadpool movie, if they nailed the ballance between action, whittyness and gore they made a legend... it's so hard to nail something crazy and yet deep like that...
I just pray it's something like this test footage. Please let this Deadpool movie be good.
Let's face it, the only reasons why Fox is making this reboot is for them to keep the F4 rights from going back to Marvel in the first place and really, nobody ask for a new Fantastic 4 to begin with. Fox isn't going for the whole origin, this is just to keep the rights, plain and simple. If anything, considering Sony is letting Marvel have the rights for Spider-Man for a limited time, I would have be glad if Fox could work out a deal to have Spider-Man in F4 and I be down for Spider-Man and the Fantastic 4 crossover.
@davillain-: They're doing it because they know we all want Fox to retain the rights to F4, right? XD
@johnd13: Yep, there seems to be no chemistry in this cast...then again, it's hard to tell in 2 minutes of footage.
@davillain-: They're doing it because they know we all want Fox to retain the rights to F4, right? XD
I know you're joking, but they don't CARE what "we" want. The point is that they know they're sitting on a potential goldmine, even if they don't know what to do with it. So regardless of whether or not this movie is what "we all want", they're still gonna try to hold onto the property even if they don't have anything GOOD to offer. Maybe next time they'll do better, but there WON'T be a next time if the rights expire and Marvel gets the property back.
Now, granted, they probably don't want this movie to be a complete flop. Since they pretty much HAVE to make it, they're obviously gonna try to get as much money out of it as they can. But as I understand it, the situation is that Fox HAS to make this movie or else the rights end up going back to Marvel. Now, whether or not this is the ultimate vision they have for the franchise or if this is just them trying out a certain angle, I don't know. But yes, this movie WAS going to happen anyway, as long as Fox thinks it's worth holding onto the franchise.
And don't act like the premise is so stupid. That's ENTIRELY the reason why the Roger Corman version of Fantastic Four got made: in order to retain the rights. There's actual precedence for this, this already happened.
And to Davillain: no, Fox won't let Marvel have rights to the Fantastic Four movies. Sony did, sure, but the difference is that Sony is in a lot of financial trouble so they need all the help they can get. Once Sony realizes that their biggest movie franchise is underperforming and they don't know what to do with it, they'll make a deal to at least get a cut of the profits. Fox absolutely does not need to do that. Fox is doing well enough that they can afford some stinkers just to hold onto the rights. Regardless of intent, as long as this movie makes enough money to not be a colossal failure, then Fox won't make a Spider-Man-type deal with Marvel.
@indzman: I always try to read everything people have to say...of course some comments are more interesting than others but such is life.
@MrGeezer: Way to blow things out of proportion; 10 out of 10, man!
I didn't blow anything out of proportion. Someone made a somewhat reasonable comment (with historical precedent), and you felt that was worthy of just doing the "troll emoticon laugh" at him without explaining WHY what he said was so lol-worthy. I merely explained how what he said wasn't NEARLY as ridiculous as you're making it out to be.
Again, this already happened. Someone already made a shitty Fantastic Four movie for the sole reason of holding onto the rights. Now, there is one difference. The Corman version was ridiculously low budget and was never intended to be released, whereas the new version kind of looks like shit and has a chance of making a profit even if it sucks. So those are two different approaches: knowing that you'll take a loss and making that loss as small as possible, vs knowing that your product sucks and trying to get at least some profit out of it if it's something that you have to do anyway. But the basic premise of making a Fantastic Four movie that "we don't want" is NOT all that ridiculous. There is potential here, which is precisely why Marvel wants the film rights back. Fox knows there's potential here, and that's why they will keep making these movies regardless of whether or not they suck.
@MrGeezer: I didn't dismiss anything. I read what he said and decided to make a joke afterwards. He knew that and if you don't understand the kind of interactions I have with Davillain just don't try to guess...

Perhaps you could try explaining your position AT ALL. As in, when a person makes a comment here, it seems sort of trollish for an actual moderator to just point at the guy and laugh without explaining WHY that guy's comment was so stupid.
Particular when you're laughing about something that actually has a historical precedent behind it.
So yeah...go ahead and criticize me for making too long of a post when explaining how Davillain's comment wasn't THAT stupid. One thing we can say is that I at least explained the rationale behind what I was saying. I actually explained my position rather than just pointing at a dude and laughing at him as if he's an idiot.
So, Mr Moderator, how about you? Would you actually like to EXPLAIN why Davillain's comment was so stupid that it warranted a freaking moderator to do the equivalent of pointing at a dude and saying "let's all laugh at the dumbass"? Or would you maybe like to elaborate on your position a little bit? Maybe if you were a bit more specific about WHY his post was so stupid, maybe I could have made a more specific rebuttal and therefore would have ended up with a shorter post.

This is a PUBLIC forum, dude. If you want to do inside jokes, then we have PM's. But don't post shit for EVERYONE in the public forums and then go "well, you wouldn't understand, that's just sort of an inside joke." You didn't post that for Davillain, you posted that FOR EVERYONE. So don't get all pissy when someone else sees it and thinks that what you said is stupid. If you didn't want casual viewers forming an opinion then you wouldn't have posted it in the public discussion.
@MrGeezer: Dude, you really need a chill pill...stop getting offended in the behalf of other people...the comment wasn't for you, it was a joke to a FRIEND (you know those exist, right? I know you said you don't have any but I trust you do understand the concept?). He didn't say anything stupid, he was on point but I decided to make a joke with him like I do 20 times a day, just look at the Roll Call thread.
Also, me being a moderator is neither here or there...unless I'm moderating someone or warning them about the rules I'm a USER and I have every right to joke with a friend, and neither you or anyone else has anything to say about it unless I'm breaking the TOU. Never did I call him a "dumbass" or implied what he said was stupid; that was all you. Now would you kindly leave me alone; this is my thread and I'm done replying to you.

As i said to you ... i stand stated :P
@Captain_Swosh69: Did you watch the first 2 movies or will this be the first F4 movie for you?
@indzman: I know, I know, should have trusted the Indz... =D

It was a comment about HIS comment, presented on a public forum where everyone else can see. Tell me, was there ANYTHING in your comment to indicate that it was an inside joke between you and him, vs just a complete ridiculing of his stance on the issue?
Or to put it this way...you weren't just making a joke to your friend, you were ridiculing the opinions of anyone within earshot who might agree with the dude. It's the same as if me and my Muslim friend have an inside joke where I mention Muslims blowing up babies and beating their wives. In private, that's fine. But the second we're in a public place where everyone can hear, you're goddamned right that anyone within earshot is gonna have a problem when you say that shit.
And yes, as a moderator you SHOULD have a better sense of appropriate public behaviour since you're the one in charge of MODERATING public behaviour on this site.
@indzman: So will you be watching this one or not so much? I might watch it at home, but it's not a theatre trip for me.

To be fair, charizard1605 most of the times loves to have fun in system wars, despite it's troll attempt and I knew Korvus was having fun so it's fair game, not that it makes me mad or anything.
@Gaming-Planet: what about a bollywood version instead?
It would be sensational. I'd pay good money to see that just for giggles.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't defending YOU, I was defending the YOUR OPINION. Whether or not you knew that Korvus was having fun, there was absolutely nothing in his post to indicate that that was the case. It still ends up looking like he's ridiculing a particular point of view, and hell yes it's fair for me to point out that that point of view is not stupid.
If nothing else, he could have defused this right from the beginning by pointing out that it was an inside joke and not a fair representation of his stance on the issue, instead of going "haha, tldr, you're blowing things out of proportion". So even if he wasn't being condescending and ridiculing to you, he most CERTAINLTY did that shit to ME. And again...without even offering a single word of explanation as to what he actually meant. And yeah...that IS inappropriate. I'm not asking for an apology, but I am gonna have a problem so long as he keeps trying to make it out as if I'm the one who fucked up. Even if he didn't point at YOU and go "hah, let's laugh at the dumbass", that's precisely what he did to ME as soon as I commented on his post.
