By favorite band that nobody seems to know of by far is definitely the Black Keys. Anyone who hasn't heard them should definitely check them out :D

They are a popular band, but for some reason anyone I ask about them doesn't know what I'm talking about.

They're far from unknown (7million plays on LastFM), but I wish CunninLynguists were more well-known than they are. They have an awful name but make awesome music.

Pac Div owns too, but depending on how their album goes they might get really popular by the end of the year. Doubt it though.

I'd say they're a throwback band with that dirty, bluesy garage sound. They're awesome though.

I would say 90% of the bands I listen to would be unfamiliar to the average person.

I never see anyone mention it anywhere, so I'll just assume Powerglove is relatively unheard of. Awesome metal band that covers various cartoon and videogame songs.

Vern's Pot O' Chili. They don't even have a record label. They're actually a local band, so unless u live in my town, i doubt anyones heard of them. They're a really cool band tho with a real kind of beachy, acoustic sound tho. My brother is friends with the drummer.

The Decemberists are superstars in the indie pop scene. Never really liked them.

Heatmiser is one band that I never see anyone mention. Hear about Elliot Smith all the time, but not Heatmiser.

They are boring. :P I don't think many people have heard of Eastcide, Ektomorf, Janvs, Karnivool, Naildown, Opera IX, To/Die/For, Scale the Summit, Without Face, Poverty's No Crime, and maybe ...And Oceans.

Alpha Rev -I'm not sure how well-known they are, since I don't hear them talked about much on OT.. but they did have a song on the VH1 top 20 countdown a couple of months ago. (New Morning)

But probably more than them,

Bob Schneider - He has a big cult following, but has never really gone mainstream. His antics are hilarious and random, especially at live shows.

This song of his has started getting some national play- 40 Dogs

Both of these artists have really blossomed in the live music scene in and around Austin, TX. They're incredible musicians.

I don't have Comedy Central... so I didn't know. And I don't follow the indie pop scene either :( I had no idea how popular they were, I just heard a song and liked it :) that's how I choose my music. My favorite "genre" of music is good music :P

The Mercury Program, Tristeza and Maserati are good instrumental with a dream-rock ish sound. No one I know has ever heard of them.

More popular(though still relatively obscure) bands I like are Thrice, Thursday, Explosions in the Sky and many others...
