Echo and the Bunnymen, The Police, R.E.M., The Smiths, and The Jesus and Mary Chain. I would say Joy Division, but I really consider them to be from the 70s.

Not necesarilly, they just have to have a good majority of their work in the 80s or started in the 80s.

The Police are great. When I started listening to vinyl, I decided to find and buy all of their records. They have many really good songs on their albums that you don't hear on the radio.

The Cure

Nine Inch Nails

Smashing Pumpkins

Marillion

Depeche Mode

Psychedelic Furs

Joy Division

Bauhaus

Echo and the Bunnymen

Talking Heads

THe Clash

REM (can't believe I forgot this one...)

Most of these bands are late 70's - early 80's bands, but they're all the same era of music.

EDITED for some missing bands

I was loose with my definition of 80's. Most of the bands there started in the 70's...

Wiki says they were both formed in '88, not that it means anything....
