Duran Duran is my favourite band of the 80's.
I would've said a-ha, but I only love the stuff they did in the 00's as opposed to the stuff in the 80's (which was pretty bad).

The 80s was such a great decade for music that it's practically impossible for me to mention my favourites witout leaving out some... but I shall try and post some bands I don't think have been mentioned yet anyway.

nice! I seen Celtic Frost live in Hollywood at the House of Blues. :) They were awesome.
WHEN? omg i wish theyd reform and do a show, i need a tour shirt ( wanna sell me urs? ) ARE YOU MORBID?I'm pretty sure it was in early / mid 2007. My friend actually knows the band members and he got us in for free. ;) I got to meet Thomas Gabriel Fischer before we even got in. I didn't get a shirt; I spent my money on beer instead.
Hey, first mention of the Furs? I do wish, however, that they weren't so heavy on the saxaphone solos on many of their songs. Makes it sound kind of dated.New Order and Psychedelic Furs for sure.

OMG Bolt Thrower, I forgot all about those guys. I actually came REALLY close to buying Warmaster but backed down due to a lack of funds.
Me, the humble cIassic rock listener, says Scorpions and Def Leppard.
Those are the two bands I listen frequently from that decade (although Scopions were formed in the 70's [69 to be precise but their first album was released in 1972] their popular stuff belongs to the 80's: No One Like You, Rock You Like a Hurricane, Still Loving You, Blackout, The Zoo etc etc).
Here's some in alphabetical order just off the top of my head... criteria is that they released at least one landmark album from 80-89:
Bad Religion
Boogie Down Productions
David Bowie
Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
Dead Kennedys
Devo
Fugazi
Guns N Roses
Iron Maiden
Killing Joke
Megadeth
Metallica
Minor Threat
The Misfits / Danzig
Mission Of Burma
Motorhead
Gary Numan
NWA
Ozzy Osbourne
The Pixies
Queen
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rush
Scientist
Talking Heads
Tom Waits (did his best work in the 80s)
Violent Femmes
Wailing Souls
List is, naturally, not inclusive.

Ooooh I know, seeing her jumping around in the video for Birthday still makes me so happy :D
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this... just about everyone I know thinks I'm weird because I've had a Jones for Bjork since I was but a lad... but seriously... the girl can wear a dead swan and still be hot.
PS - Forgot The Cramps! Thanks, Lord_Daemon.
