[QUOTE="rzepak"]Explain. Well lets analyze my extreme statement. From it I believe it would be safe to assume that my views on the world and conflict resolution are that of a pacifist yes? So maybe I find it ridiculous, just like you find my statment, that you talk of your favorite branch of the military. You see nothing wrong with this? How about a topic Your favorite war? So you claim that military members are murderers. I'm assuming you're American. Where would you be without the US Military? Let's ignore WW2, the Revolutionary War, let's be trendy and call soldiers murderers. Some of my best friends are in Iraq right now, getting shot at and dodging IED's. Where are you? Oh, and Marines.

I want to join, but I am still on the fence.

I know next to nothing about their requirements.

RiSkyBiZ-13

As for now, their requirements are slim. They need people, badly. I wouldn't reccomend it, however, unless 14 month deployments to Iraq sounds appealing to you. The Air Force does 6-8 month deployments, and we're treated a LOT better. Your call, though.

Why such a difference?

Theyre all murderers. rzepak

warring and fighting are human nature, always has been. Just look at history, its peppered with fights and wars. Humans whatever they say must like some war as we seem to be at most of the time. As for which branch is the best, i say the SAS. The best secret service division ever. SEALS, The KGB, the SAS can wipe the floor with them.

They don't have enough people enlisted to cycle them any faster, unfortunately. The Army does the same thing, 12-14 month deployments, a 4-6 month cooldown, and another 12-14 month deployment (unless you're wicked smart and lucky, and get a good desk job). If you ever have any questions before you join and don't want a lying recruiter to deal with, PM me.

That's what I am most on the fence about.

I don't want to be cycled in and out all the time. After about 2 or 3 years, I want to start working civilian jobs again. But I feel like I am wussing out if don't join because of that.

Well, if you want to do only 2-3 years there is a significant downside. If you select under a 4 year enlistment for the Army or the Marines (i.e. 2-3 years), you won't get to pick your job, so they'll throw you into infantry if they want to (despite what the recruiter will tell you). Even at 4, it's sketchy. The Air Force supposedly has a 2 year enlistment, but it's a VERY well kept secret if it does indeed exist, but you'll have to look into that.

SAS is British, I was just talking about American military. Btw, Delta Force > SAS. Oh, and Israeli Spec Ops > Delta Force

Well, you'd have to tell me what you're interested in doing. There's virtually hundreds of jobs. Anything to a tech guy, air traffic controller, special ops, police (me!), firefighters, bomb squad, desk jockies, you name it.

Hey ISH,

The US Army Rangers are a Spec Ops group that do shortened deployments and fight on the front lines. PM me for more info.

Here's an even better question, which military branched ended the WW2 in germany quicker, easier, and safer, was it the U.S. Airborne, the marines, or the Navy? (which I believe the Navy and Marines are part of the same branch, and I don't see why Marines, which is just like the rangers and stuff, it's just a division, get's their own voting slot, but it's too late now.)

And don't pull Hiroshima and Nagasaki on me, that was Truman's fault, Politicians and Dictators are the murderers, the soldiers just have to go fight and die! So respecting them is the least you could do!

no the marines are there own military branch they just operate with the navy

Spec Ops, but technically I want anything where I won't be doing something behind the lines or repetitive.

The_Ish

Not to insult you, but are you serious? You want to do Special Operations, but want to stay away from the enemy lines... that's not going to happen. They don't have a Special Ops that only operate in peacetime and don't go near the action. If you're hesitant about seeing combat, DEFINATELY stay away from the Marines and the Army, and there are only a very select few jobs in the Navy and Air Force that you won't see combat. In other words, join the Coast Guard :)

You could also look into Security Forces in the Air Force, we're cops. Being a cop and doing law enforcement, it won't be repetative (but you'll still have a good chance of a little action in the desert)

I'd have to disagree with you there, the Israeli Special Forces are good but not better than Delta Force, the israeli's think they have the best of everything when in fact they dont. It all comes down to training and the equipment and how well you can use it in a combat environment.

Oooh, you should look into these USAF Special Ops, you'll get a NICE sign on bonus if you make it through the training (The AF's hurting for Spec Ops at the moment) and you'll get a sweet beret:

S.E.R.E: Stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape. You train officers and piolets how to survive behind enemy lines, living off the land, surviving POW camps mentally and physically, and staying hidden. Pretty much the ninjas of the military.

Pararescue: Pretty self explanitory. They were deeply involved in Black Hawk Down, despite Delta Force getting all the credit. These guys parachute WAY behind enemy lines in a small squad, used to being heavily outnumbered to rescue downed piolets or POW's. Their motto is "So that others may live." Not exactly my bag, but whatever. (I've been in for 2.5 years and I've only ever seen ONE of these guys) They do the EXACT same training as the SEALS, and then some.

Combat Controller: These guys are the SEALS of the sky. They HALO jump behind enemy lines as a small squad, and pretty much wipe out villages. That's basically it. Their training is the same as the Rangers, from what I'm told.

Army Delta Force? Delta Force isn't part of the Army, or any other branch for that matter. Their acceptance rate is MUCH lower than any other Special Operations, and their training is much tougher physically and mentally (which explains the lower acceptance rate). The gov't still won't officially acknowledge their existance. In other words, they own the SEALS. That's why I didn't even bother adding them to this poll.

D:

But seriously, is that all the Spec Ops of the Air Force? Pararescue and Combat Controller sound like something I would like.

There are a few others, but the ones I listed are the most popular. You can find them all at www.airforce.com as well as all the other jobs we offer.

One more question....though I don't really have any interest in flying any aircraft, how many years in service does one need to be allowed to fly one? I once heard it took 6 years.

You can fly helo's by going to Warrant Officer School. Plane's are different. You need to be an officer first off.

And Combat Controllers are not the SeALs of the sky, they do not whipe out villages or anything of the sort. SF is alright, but unless you are on a CCIF team you will never participate in the wars in Iraq or Afgahnastan. And Pararescuers don't operate alone either. They are always escorted, but are still pretty sweet. But they are medics in the end of things.

[QUOTE="UrbanSpartan125"][QUOTE="H3llstrike"]Navy SEALs are the most badass and then Army Delta force.....RiSkyBiZ-13

Other way around, with Force Recon and Delta Force tied.

Well technically it is part of the Army, 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta (1st SFOD-D) is what they are called they are a detachment from the Green Berets, which also wasnt mentioned but anyway, they are a branch of the US Army just as the SEALs are part of the Navy

well i acidently pressed army but air force is definantly the coolest but the real quistion is not the fovrite its the branch that does the most for the countrycowboymonkey21

The most important factor in any war is Air Superiority. I vote the Air Force, not only because i plan on joining the USAF as an officer after i graduate college, but becuase it's awesome.

The Air Force.

btw what category would the S.A.S. be put in? because they are the best of the best.

RiSkyBiZ-13

SAS is British, I was just talking about American military. Btw, Delta Force > SAS.

no SAS > all...

and delta force definitely doesnt have a better track record than the SAS.

It depends, you have to be an officer, and you'd have to be one REALLY good officer to make the required rank to fly in 6 years. Helicopters = Warrent Officer, that's like the limbo in between enlisted and officer. They still get saluted, but they're not full on commisioned officers.

I don't think much information is available on either group's "track record"...
