His film The Ghost Writer was released yesterday on DVD/Blu-Ray and I am excited to pick it up. I still haven't seen it yet. So what are your favorite films? My favorites (As of right now) would be something like this:

  1. Repulsion
  2. Chinatown
  3. Rosemary's Baby
  4. Knife in the Water
  5. The Pianist

I need to re-watch The Tenant.

One of my favourite directors. : D

Repulsion
Chinatown
Rosemary's Baby

The other two I've seen are great, but these three are masterpiece.

I saw The Ghost Writer just recently, and I thought it was absolutely amazing. It's definitely my new favorite film of 2010, and I think it's up there as far as one of my favorite Polanski films.

I think he gave up on that project. He is doing God of Carnage now which sounds promising.

The only movie of his that I've seen was his version of Macbeth in my 11th grade English class. MacDuff was nowhere near as badass as I would have liked.

I guess it's good to have principles... I could never be that black and white about it though. When it comes to art especially, I think it's important to be able to appreciate a work independently of its creation. There are many, many flawed artists out there; respecting their talent doesn't necessitate respecting them personally. I mean, I think Richard Wagner was a pretty massive douchebag, but I'm not going to plug my ears every time Ride of the Valkyries plays.

Yes, what he did was wrong. But I don't believe just because a man did something that was extremely immoral, like molestation, should have their works affected. Roman Polanski did something inexcusable, but his works speak for themselves and do not reflect his personal life and crimes. I listen to Michael Jackson, yet I despise the man. Hate the act, not the art.

Someone had to bring that up in this thread.... Couldn't it just remain a thread about his films and not his actions...
