Kay folks, let's leave skepticism, sarcasm, and mean nastiness at the door here. I'm trying to create a positive religion thread. >_>

What are your favorite parts of the Bible? I'm partial to the Sermon on the Mount, but really I'm into anything that came directly from the mouth of Jesus. I also started reading Romans recently, which is good because it's some serious talk. I'm trying to focus on less about the implications of homosexuality as a sin and worry about the many other implications that book has on my own life. The beginning of Romans 2 in particular is something I'm trying to keep in my mind.

"You shall live in booths seven days; all citizens in Israel shall live in booths, in order that future generations may know that I made the Israelite people live in booths when I brought them out of the land of Egypt" (Lev. 23:42-43) Endearingly silly

I like the many teachings of Soloman in the Book of Proverbs. Much wisdom can be gained from reading it.

11If two men are fighting and the wife of one of them comes to rescue her husband from his assailant, and she reaches out and seizes him by his private parts,12you shall cut off her hand. Show her no pity.

I think he said to quote a verse that you agree with. Of course you couldn't do something as simple as that, showing your intolorence. It also makes me wonder how a intolerant person like yourself thinks that you can now somehow judge.

23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up by the way, young lads came out from the city and mocked him and said to him, Go up, you baldhead; go up, you baldhead! 24 When he looked behind him and saw them, he cursed them in the name of the LORD. Then two female bears came out of the woods and tore up forty- two lads of their number. 2 Kings 2:23-24

Mark 11:22-25

(NIV)

22 Have faith in God, Jesus answered.

23 Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.

24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

25 And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.

This isn't a human being we are dealing with, obviously since non of us have Godly authority over anyone in this world. You who can't create, breathe life into a person, make existence and time as it is, are in no position to tell God what he can do with people since we are all going to die eventually, something that he has authority over as well. Not only has he made us, but he has made the rules and the plane of those rules of which we live by.

Oh yeah. I also like Ezekiel 25:17 because of Pulp Fiction. The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee. *BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM! BLAM!* (I added the "BLAM's". They're not really in the verse.)

I've heard this on "The Book of Eli" and it was badass. I don't know if it is an actual verse though.

Are you a happy individual? Yes, there are some off-kilter verses in the Bible, and verses that don't make a lot of sense (yes, they exist and they are in there). Spirituality isn't so much a following of code as it is an understanding, so if you're just mocking verses instead of trying to walk away with the bigger picture, you really aren't doing yourself any favors.

The Great Commission

MATHEW 28: 16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.18Then Jesus came to them and said, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

I'm not sure if I have this phrased right, but I like that passage in Matthew that goes, "Whatever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me."

I also like, "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

Romans 8 is absolutely fantastic, beautiful, and worthy of memorizing to heart.

[8:1]There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [2]For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. [3]For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, [4]in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. [5]For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. [6]For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace. [7]For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. [8]Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

[9]You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him. [10]But if Christ is in you, although the body is dead because of sin, the Spirit is life because of righteousness. [11]If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

[12]So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. [13]For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. [14]For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. [15]For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, Abba! Father! [16]The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, [17]and if children, then heirsheirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.

[18]For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. [19]For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. [20]For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of him who subjected it, in hope [21]that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. [22]For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. [23]And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. [24]For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? [25]But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

[26]Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. [27]And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. [28]And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. [29]For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. [30]And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

[31]What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? [32]He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? [33]Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies. [34]Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who diedmore than that, who was raisedwho is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.

Other passages that have been of huge influence to me have been Psalm 51, Isaiah 6, Isaiah 53, John 3, 1 Peter 3:15, 2 Timothy 4:1-2, and 1 Corinthians 15.

I never said I was an atheist or didn't believe in god. I just provided arguments to why believing in God isn't rational. It's an interesting position to argue.

I never said I was an atheist or didn't believe in god. I just provided arguments to why believing in God isn't rational. It's an interesting position to argue.

Fair enough I guess...

Ezekiel25:17. "The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the
tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through
the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike
down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers.

And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon you!

1 Corinthians 13:4-7 4

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Good stuff. Even for an atheist.

There is honestly too many to choose

Matthew 21:17
And he left them and went out of the city, into Bethany, and he lodged there

As true today, as it was then :')

The ones that are factually verifiable. Oh wait............

I think my favorite book of the Bible is Job. God lets Satan kill Job's entire family and completely destroy his life in order to win a bet.
