I just picked up The Good The Bad The Ugly on Bluray the other day for just $12.00 and I forgot just how good that movie is! So, I was thinking, what are some of the best Western movies out there in everybody's opinion? I'd have to say that The Good The Bad The Ugly is by far my favorite. My second favorite would probably be Unforgiven.If I had to list my top 5 itwould go like this;

1)Good Bad Ugly

2)Unforgiven

3)Appaloosa

4)The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

5)Hang em High

I'm not really old enough to remember the older great ones, with John Wayne, and such, but one real good one comes to mind, The Magnificent Seven.

Thoughts?

Some of the great, older westerns such as The Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider and The Wild Bunch come to mind.

Fistful of Dollars is my personal pick. I know GBU and For a Few Dollars More outclass it in terms of production values, but I just love Fistful. The first time I was blown away. The story is so simple, but it's just so intense and honestly reminded me of GTA or Saints Row. Badass hero comes into town, finds it being fought over by two rival gangs, he must play both sides in order to take control of the town himself.

Most memorable for me would be Tombstone.

I've watched several times since I was a little kid and Doc Holiday is pretty sick with the pistols.

Tombstone was going to be the one I was going to mention. I also liked Open Range. I have not watched many older westerns though I should eventually

Forgot about Tombstone and Open Range also. Open Range was a surprise hit, and while not a blockbuster financially, I thought it was outstanding. Tombstone's cast was amazing. I think Wyatt Earp came out around the same time, which basically was the same premise, but Tombstone was just much better imo.

I'm not a big fan of westerns. However, I really liked The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. Eventually I'll get around to watching some of Leone's.

It was a gas tank? I was just saying last night, few thrillers are as economical as No Country: there's barely a scene that feels unnecessary.
