My favorite and most influential solos in rock music are:

Metallica -- Damage Inc., Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Devils Dance, The Unforgiven, Sad But True, Jump in the Fire, The Four Horsemen, One., Suicide and Redemption, No Leaf Clover, The Memory Remains.

Iron Maiden -- Holy Smoke, Powerslave, Aces High, Fear of the Dark, The Wicker Man.

Dream Theater -- Octavarium, Panic Attack, A Nightmare to Remember, A Rite of Passage, The Test That Stumped Them All, Constant Motion, The Glass Prison.

Black Sabbath -- War Pigs, Paranoid, Never Say Die, Sabbra Cadabra, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

Megadeth -- Back in the Day, Hangar 18, Into the Lungs of Hell.

Ozzy Osbourne -- Mr. Crowley, Over the Mountain, Miracle Man, No More Tears (probably my favorite), Hellraiser, Black Illusion, Gets Me Through, Nightmare, I Can't Save You, Not Going Away.

Judas Priest -- Electric Eye, Hell Patrol.

Joe Satriani -- Crushing Day, Rubina, Heavy Metal Christmas, Always With Me Always With You, Redshift Riders, Satch Boogie.

Other -- Stricken (Disturbed), Collide (Anarchy Club), Free Bird (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Jaws of Life (John Petrucci), Cliffs of Dover (Eric Johnson), Far Beyond the Sun (Yngwie Malmsteen), Speed Metal Symphony (Cacophony), Technical Difficulties (Racer X).

Probably a lot more, but I can't remember now. I'm tired.

I despise the idea of a really flamboyant 'solo' in music, like those you are referencing. As an avid musician, it's always been my opinion that the construction of great music resuls from a group of musicians meeting at their preferential center point to create a very multi-faceted, active listening experience in which they all participate equally.

That's just my opinion.

Bon Jovi - Bed of Roses.

That song gets me everytime. I asked my mum to play it at my funeral if I should ever die before she does.

That's nice. I'd get Sad But True to be played. Everyone at the funeral would be like "what the...?" and then a message from me would play: "That's right. I'm dead. You know it's sad, but true. Now, mourn me! Or I'll haunt the **** out of you." And Mark_the_Lie: If you hate solos, why did you even post?

Party Hard is going to be my funeral song. If you have never heard the song.... go to youtube and watch the video. It would be the greatest funural ever. I would want everyone to get wasted while mourning. :P

:o I thought you didn't like them. Good to see John Petrucci's playing got to you.

Anyways I don't think solos alone are that influential, the rest of the song is just as important as well.

Yeah I agree for the most part.

Also how can I define if a solo is influential or not? All I can judge by is if I like it.

Therefore I will mention solos by

Uli Jon Roth

-Drifting Sun

-Sun In My Hand

Rudolf Schenker

-In Trance

-Still Loving You
