That which leads into the climax of the development section of Brahms's first symphony, presented at the start of the video. So bonechillingly menacing, and though you don't hear it, the start is a stroke of genius, falling to the lowest note of the development section off of a long pedal point above it, before launching into the sustained build to the climax.

Spectacular writing. Simply spectacular.

A lot of good choices from most of you. I don't have a favorite but this thread needs more My Friend of Misery.

I notice a young Brahms's in your avatar. Is he your favourite composer?

PerilousWolf

Yep, he is. I think he found the perfect balance between the passion of Romanticism and the formal structure and cleverness of earlier eras. His developments are always full of win. And he had a very intuitive sense of how to write a beautiful melody that does not get trapped in downbeats.

Longview Green Day http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42BBdzzgPNM

Just listen to it.

Green day has no talent, and there songs have no skill. Everything they play is so basic and simple. Geddy lee has some good bass line songs too I think

Of course this is your opinion. Trust me that bassline isn't simple.
