I am thinking about getting a new dog and wanted to know what kinds of dogs OT likes. I would prefer one that doesn't shed and doesn't have a tendency to bark, but of course say what your favourite is as well. :P
My old dogs were a schnoodle and a cockapoo

almost all dogs bark. what determines if they make you crazy with it or not is your reaction to it.i have dobermans and they are security minded and bark when they hear sounds.
i go to the window check to see what they are barking about, if i see what they are barking about and i approve of the barking (say a person in the backyard or whatever) i say "good... all clear" meaning i am aware of what they alerted me to and then i call them away from the window and give them a treat.
if they bark for no reason i go "uh-uh" in a slightly disapproving tone meaning they gave me a false alert made me get up for nothing and they have to leave the window and get no treat.
what this does is make the dog think about if it is a real threat or something abnormal enough to get excited about or something that is meaningless to me(like another dog) and if they bark or do not bark are they going to be treated for it.
also sometimes randomly if they look out side and just peer about and leave the window without barking and if there is nobody back there i also give them a treat for making the decision to not bark.
if you are consistent about this they will only ever bark at stuff not supposed to be around and not at your neighbors and their dogs while still alerting you to security threats or unusual occurrences.
p.s. oh yeah, and NO YELLING, barking is a pack activity and if you yell the dog will think you are joining in on the fun.
