Original Pokémon series. Ash sucked as a trainer, but it was still great.
BranKetra
He still sucks, in fact im pretty sure he's worse now than when he started.
What nonsense. He's one of, if not the best trainer on the show. He can train pokemon to high-level, becomes friends with them, let them go, and start over without losing optimism. He's a champ.I dont really watch pokemon anymore but when its on in the morning I watch it, and he STILL loses. He pretty much loses every single gym battle he participates in and then rematches them and barely wins or saves them from team rocket and gets a pitty badge. He also loses to his rival Paul. He shouldnt be losing any battles this late in the game and with all his experience. he just sucks.
Hey Arnold!
Rugrats
Ed Edd 'n Eddy
My top three in no particular order, Unless we're talking about classic stuff, in that case Loony Tunes.

I don't know about beyond Johto, but you're right. He did lose a whole lot. He kept coming back though. That says a lot about him.On top of that, I can recall several times where he won gym battles the first time. I don't think you understand what it means to start over. Each time, it's a new experience. It's not like he's Goku, where he's getting stronger each time. He's learning more stuff about the individual ones, treating them as companions rather than living weapon options. Every one is a little different.
You kind of sound like a Gary fan.

Im a fan of powering up. I like when characters progress throughout a series, I like that moment where they become a badass. Ash doesnt do this, and I know he starts over, but he even loses when he uses Pikachu. That has to be one of the most pathetic pokemon i'v ever seen if hes been used for years and yet he still loses.
My theory is they're trying to appeal to every generation of kids so that when someone starts watching pokemon its as if he just started his journey. Stuck in a world where he will always suck.

...So, the best Pokemon trainers power up?:|
Also, that's probably how it is with the series. Except for the "suck" part.
