That's pretty dumb for a myriad of reasons. I mean, that is a bad way to arrest people for ANY crime. What that crime happens to be is immaterial to my position on this matter. For starters it's not entirely unheard of for someone to click on a link without even really knowing what it is, or for web browsers (or anything else on a computer) to do weird crap at times. What if someone posts the link somewhere else as a trick and then people click on it, like a Rick Roll gone horribly wrong? This is just a terrible idea. This is going to lead to a lot of bad arrests. Anyway, shouldn't they be concentrating on the people who actually make and provide child porn if they are going to do this sort of thing at all?

So I could just send someone a link to those videos and then the FBI would raid their house when they clicked on it?

Somehow I get the sense that the FBI did not think this through all the way.

It could be the new Rick Roll.

I swear that I didn't read any replies before I made my above post. I guess that was the obvious connection to make.

see this is stupid if you think about it. what would happen if someone figures out one of these videos is really a fake hyperlink and sends it to a friend and tells him its something else asprank? like if they wanted to be a jerk or something? I know plenty of people who would actually do this.

Yeah, definitely. Get rid of the people who provide it, and you'll get rid of the people who watch it. It amazes me that there are even websites where child pornography is posted. If they know how to bait people like this than the FBI should have the resources to find sites where it is provided and take them down.

Not only that, but what if that someone disguised the link as something else in the email (like a link to a youtube video)? Its not hard to have a link say something its not.

What if someone, say on GS, were to post the link claiming that it was a news story? You click it and BAM jail time.

I think we all owe it to ourselves to try and get as many people to go there unknowingly so that the FBI steps back to where it should be. Once they realize millions of people are clicking on them unintentionally, theyll see this idea is not only immoral, but just downright stupid.

Programmers can make self-distributing applications that cause people's computers to automatically connect to these bait sites, then FBI employment will be up 1200%

This is a sign that the FBI is losing it. They dont even bother saving a referral proving if you even were navigated from the dodgy site in question, or from somewhere like gamespot (through an FBIroll link)

I hope the EU has the sense not to do something like this

Let the old thread die. and it makes me think someone at the FBI has been playing too much GTAIV.
