What happens when he gets drunk and decides to drive? Oh noes, better take away that car, too!:o
Were all of those guns illegal since they began their existence? How many of those guns were bought legally at one time then became illegal, and resold/stolen?InconsistancyThat's the problem. Just because you ban guns doesn't mean they vanish, all you did was prevent further legal purchases of them and send the rest into the black market. They are still there, now you can't track them and make sure lunatics don't get a hold of them.

Wake up people!!

Were all of those guns illegal since they began their existence? How many of those guns were bought legally at one time then became illegal, and resold/stolen?
Also, in that article: Obtained from friends or family 39.6%, how much of those were legally, or illegally, obtained?
And:Obtained on the street/illegal source 39.2%, this contradicts your previous statement of 80%, by a bit.
Claiming to source the Justice Department, and not having a link to the reference, or at least the name of the specific article referenced... @Justice.gov, not finding the specific values that I type in...
I'm pretty sure Im not allowed to sell my friends or family guns.
It seems like everyone is arguing about personal defense against criminals (a valid, but secondary concern). The reason America specifically amended the right to effective and lethal weapons was to ward off tyranny from the government. Why does no one think that is a concern any more, especially after having seen personal liberty compromised and limited extensively over the last hundred years in nearly every western nation?

Well then the guns don't matter because the army wouldn't shoot the people. being armed seems to make it more likely that the army would kill fellow Americans.I'm pretty sure Im not allowed to sell my friends or family guns.
AdamPA1006
Yes, you can. That's one way to legally get around background checks. You just have to write them a bill of sale.
However, you can be charged if you know they're not legally allowed to have a gun (such as a felon). Also, they have to reside in the same state as you and the sale must take place in that state.
[QUOTE="MlauTheDaft"] Because he is mentally unstable lunatic who would have wanted to do this had nothing to do with it. If they want to do something, they will do it, law or no laws. He may have been inspired by Batman movies, you want to ban those? Chill out, guns aren't the problem. Stop scapegoating the tool and try to find logical ways to deal with the person using it.What's the point of this thread? So we're going to see similar shootings?
The lenient gun laws enabled this guy to commit his murders in the first place.

Apparently, stricter gun regulation isn't the answer, but banning costumes in theatres is.

Mafiree
Norway: .68 intentional homicide 44%(~.3) are gun-related
US: 4.8 intentional homicide 85%(~4.1) are gun-related
It doesn't eliminate homicide, it 'reduces'.
One tragedy isn't likely to make the bulk of homicides in a year(at least in the us), even on 9/11 ~3000 deaths, still 10 times less than the overall homicides that year.
That's not even what I'm asking you dolt, I'm asking how many guns were legally obtained before becoming illegal weapons due to crime, then sold/traded. Thus, what amount of weapons would have been completly uneffected by any amount of gun-control/ban?I'm pretty sure Im not allowed to sell my friends or family guns.
AdamPA1006
Cops can't be every place all the time. In America you have the option to protect yourself and others when the cops are not there. It is better to have a gun and not need one than to need a gun and not have one. As for feeling safe in Europe there have also been been terrorist attacks there. That's why cops exist, to protect and serve. Civilians don't need guns, we're not at war.

Who said we need guns for war? :?
There are who need it for legitimate reasons such as protection, hunting, or even collecting so don't judge the majority of Americans because of several nutjobs.
Also, you can't always rely on the police to arrive when something needs an immediate response, especially in bad neighborhoods (though you still have to call the cops).
I don't know where you live but some of the European countries do have a high crime rate even when guns aren't factored in.
[QUOTE="TheWalkingGhost"][QUOTE="joel_c17"] NRA spokesperson has arrived. Joel_c17: IDIOT!!!! That guy was getting help at the time this happened... Didn't stop him did it ;-) Your excuse that guns aren't the problem went out the window when u have had 21 mass shootings since 2001. Well if only 21 in over a decade then I have to say that is not that shocking. Now if we had 21 Norway mass shootings, then that be different.
They are morons, gun rights are not going any where.. I love how Obama is constantly believed that he could ban guns if he could, even though he passed a milestone 2nd amendment bill that allowed concealed weapons on national parks.. And a liberal slanted court struck down New York City's handgun ban.. By Obama's track record, he is more pro gun than Bush Jr was.. sSubZerOo
And if he is reelected (god I hope not), he'll reverse his gun stance more than likely.

Yes just like the Republicans said right before he was elected the FIRST TIME with things like this, but alas it did not happen.. Get your head out of your ass.. This isn't suggesting Obama is amazign or other such things, but people need to start basing their dumbass views off FACTS.. FACT Obama is more pro 2nd Amendment than Bush Jr was based upon track record!

He most likely will get reelected. Even with a struggling economy, he remains a slight favorite.
I think this election would be a slam dunk for Republicans if they weren't saddled with such a weak problematic candidate.

On what do you base that assumption?I'd like to know that as well.
Where did I say I knew all about you? All I am asking is would you be confident in making a uick draw while you're having leisure time?In case you have not guessed I am in the military and have seen combat. I have done access and retention drills so many times my hands have calluses. When you have trained and are in shape when the fight or flight hits you just react and your heart rate is low enough. That's all fine and well, but there's no way to assume that the majority of people carrying guns will have your same experience. I trust that most of them are responsible gun owners, sure. But I certainly don't trust that most of them have extensive training or have ever seen combat.[QUOTE="DrTrafalgarLaw"][QUOTE="noscope-ak47"]You know nothing about me or how I was trained you also know nothing about muzzel flash or what a crack or pop means. You also know nothing about the diffrent types of body armour and how to defeat them. You also seem to think BA with out plates makes a person invincible. You don't know what weapons are on my hip and ankle and what physical shape I am in. If you want to think I am a fat hick that is scared of his own shadow knock yourself out. As for making sure gun owners have cheap training and are not section 8's I am all for that.
noscope-ak47
Still a little confused as to why assault rifles are legal? Fair enough if you want a gun to protect yourself but I really cannot see how a regular pistol wouldn't suffice for dealing with your common burglar/robber...
Ok because there is a nutso who shot up a theater than everyone else must suffer? I don't get that logic. Also the bottom line is, regardless if this guy had a license to carry or not he still would have done something in that theater whether is was the same approach or not. People who have guns and kill people purposely are the ones that don't have licenses and are carrying illegally to begin with. I don't understand the logic that if you make it harder for someone to get a gun that somehow that is going to prevent them from purchasing one from somebody. Comepletely ignorant.
