He means he didn't die. :P
[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]And no Austrians were lost today. :Pclyde46He's Austrian I think.And he's alive, so like I said...:P
Congrats to Felix ! Absolutely amazing jump, and lol at those who said he's going to die. What a great man!
It would have been nice if he broke the longest freefall record and completed a hat-trick. Nevertheless, great achievement.

Eh, no biggie. He can try again next week.
[QUOTE="chaplainDMK"]So did he actually break the sound barrier?worlock77
Yes, he did.
i dont think so ...yet anyway

I read elsewhere that he did. *shrugs*
Press conference starting shortly for anyone interested.
I didn't watch the actual jump, but I'm glad he acomplished it without harm. On the news, his mother was crying because she was worried about him, unsurprisingly!
He's Austrian I think.[QUOTE="clyde46"][QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]And no Austrians were lost today. :PMatthew-first
He basically did what Superman is doing in your sig, except he went down, not up.I watched it live on tv. Was pretty cool.

[QUOTE="Hexagon_777"]He basically did what Superman is doing in your sig, except he went down, not up. True. Felix didn't loose his shorts like Supes does in my sig though.Oh? Thought that's a boot.[QUOTE="muller39"]

He went 729mph, but the speed of sound varies depending on altitude, it gets lower the closer to sea level you are... So they have to calculate his speed at various heights to determine if he did or not...

They stated at the press conference that he reached speeds of 833 mph.

The ballon, made from polyethylene is just 0.0008 thick. The amount of gas pumped into it is really not at that high of a pressure. You just need volume. It really isn't even filled completely up. As the atmospheric pressure decreases, the pressure inside the ballon will remain the same, but fill more of the ballon out. Baumgartner even had to prebreathe on straight oxygen too as ascending with nitrogen in his system could have given him the bends, just like scuba divers can get if they ascend to quickly from the depths.
It was estimated that the temperature at the altitude he was jumping at would be at around -91F.
More on the ballons Felix used for his record jumps at Wired.
There now is video available from what appears to be a chest cam of his jump. He did the dead cockroach way of jumping, on his back, just like Kittinger used back in the 60's when he made his jump.
Oh, it has been confirmed that he broke the speed of sound at 833.9 MPH.
