I wonder if Michelle Bachman will comment that the fires are a message from god like the East Coast earthquake and Irene.

Engrish_Major
Well, the largest damage from the earthquake was to the National Cathedral, and the tropical storms today blew down the crane that was repairing the National Cathedral. So, if this is God's wrath, then we've got the wrong idea about what he likes.

It is a cathedral; should have been a good Protestant church :x

Wow, yeah googling on this it does seem like this is pure conspiracy bunk; I didn't even notice that TC was using "sources" like prisonplanet

yea i hate to defend rick perry but even he wouldnt do something that stupid. especially since he lives in austin and it might be inconvenient if it burns to the ground.

No. God is telling Rick Perry not to cut the Forest Service's budget.

No. God is telling Rick Perry not to cut the Forest Service's budget.

He also asked for federal monetary assistance in dealing with this. What a great president he would make.

forest fires are necessary in stable ecological environments and are good for the soil among other things.

except when 1000s of homes are wiped off the earth

I don't see how having more homes, specifically the large ones that we construct in western society, would make the earth a better place. People want more jobs, right? Can't hurt to let homes burn down. Then insurance companies can swoop in and people can build new ones.

Those people would still have lost things that can't be replaced like family photos and heirlooms. One man in Bastrop talked about how he lost all of his dad's WWII medals. You can't replace those.

I don't know about you, but losing my entire game collection I've worked to build over the past ten years would be the breaking point for me. Some games I own have tripled in value. I can't afford to replace those. Not to mention I received many as gifts so they have a sentimental value to them.

I also have various items that relatives in South Korea sent me over the years. Good luck finding those items again.

I live just north of Austin and my home burning down is the last thing I want to happen.

Well actually it's a state disaster. That said I'm just pointing out his hypocrisy as the only reason I came into this thread in the first place was to post what scorch already did.

Michelle Bachmann took federal funds from the Obama stimulus. So this hypocrisy is spread all around.

I'm still amazed he's leading polls. Apparently the "do as I say, not as I do" act works.

Oh I'm aware of that as well, sadly/thankfully there hasn't been any Bachmann specific topics to bring that up in.

lmfao Ionus.. You really have a way with words. I live in Leander, TX (about 20 miles north of Austin), and work in and around Austin daily. While the number and size of the wildfires around here has been very alarming, the city of Austin is in no danger of "burning to the ground." Bastrop county is about 20-30 miles east of Austin, and that's where the really big problems are. There were a number of significant and destructive fires in and close to the Austin city limits this week as well, but it's not nearly as bad as you make it sound. The Bastrop fire is truly massive though.. The largest wildfire in state history. It's really out of control and I hope that it gets controlled soon, whether it's firefighters or FEMA that does it.

Just to put it in perspective- Yesterday afternoon the main Bastrop fire was approximately 24 miles wide and 20 miles long. Today it's even bigger. They are starting to get some form of containment on it, but it's kind of a joke when it's covering that much area. They flew a massive tanker plane into Austin the other day to start the work of dumping water and/or fire retardant on the main fire, but they won't start using it till Friday because of a mandatory rest period for the pilots (they just finished trying to put fires out in California the other day). There have been 2 decent-sized fires within a couple of miles of my house in Leander within the past few weeks. One burned down 18 homes, the other 10 or 11.

[QUOTE="UniverseIX"] Destruction is good for business within communities that have the money to rebuild. It stimulates economies better than most other alternative methods.

I take it your house has never burned down?

Took him seriously for about half a second then I read that the source was Prison Planet. The same site that likes to claim FEMA has set up camps to secretly imprison all of America.

This isn't Deus Ex yo.

Let's see.... Insurance companies are notorious for one thing - dodging their own insurance contracts.

Burning homes down = no home = homeless people = sick people = people incapable of work = Ultimately less work effieciency amongst the people = Lower GDP rate + Attention of human rights groups to boot.

Natural disasters is also the equivalant of loss of faith in potential investors and businesses in that region and some may choose to withdraw if the situation there is REALLY bad.

Now - imagine this.
You have a family , a wife , children and your elders live in your house.
One day , a large fire breaks out and it had killed a thousand people along with their homes. Your family , your wife , your children , your elders and your eyeballs as well as your limbs goes along with them to the netherworld.

You must be either really naive or really heartless.
