I dont know if you guys know but a new law set to be integrated in spring 2011 is that women cant wear burqas or nijabs. Thats kinda messed IMO. Theyre not doing any harm wearing it. This is most heinous.

Are they still allowed to wear headresses that don't cover the face?

I have no problem with the ban. They don't fit in with French culture and are also a security threat.

MediumBread

I think so.

The Burqa is the one that covers all the head and face, so the head scarf is still allowed. It's the fact that the Burqa means you can't see the person's face that's the issue with the French.

I support their decision. Most Muslim women I see don't wear the Burqa anyway, so I guess it's not mandatory.

I agree with the decision. If I walked down the street wearing a balaclava I'd soon get told to remove it.

I can understand wanting people to take off their head ware for security reasons and they should comply, but to completely ban it altogether is just ridiculous, Whoever is in power is probably trying to score some points with a group that's fearful of those immigrants.

That's fine then. The norm in western cuture is to show your face. If you wish to live in a western country, you should conform with that.

I don't see the big deal. It's a headress which is in no way essential to their faith. If it was, then there would be a problem with this ban.

Considering that burqas are used to conceal the identity of bank robbers there is a very good reason to ban such an article of clothing from being worn in public.

Well suppose someone robbed you as you were walking down the street. "Can you tell me what he looked like?" "Uh, he had a black bag over his entire body." That's the problem. Bad guy's could conceal guns, bombs, anything.

That's a bit of a fantasy. The people agree with everything the government does because they elected them? Since when? Do you agree with everything the government is doing, then? Governments do things the people aren't happy with *all the time*. Take a look at that little war in Iraq.

Well anyone could conceal guns and bombs. The burqa as MediumBread said are only worn by women who do not often commit armed robbery, and this is not a very vaild point as you certainly dont hear of many people being robbed by people in burqas do you.If it became a problem it would be something to look into but imo there isnt much justification for this law.

The justification isn't really about the Burqa, its about trying to get less muslims in the country. Can't really say I blame them.

Look bud. You were generalizing when you said "Last i checked people just want to go about their business in peace and wear what they want to wear. " I responed with an example of someone who does NOT want to go about is business peacefully, and you give me that tired old saying "Because one muslim blows up a building they all blow up buildins?" That wasn't even the point I was trying to make. You are jumping to conclusions with an oversensitive liberal mind, in my humble opinion

Anyone can don a burqa and commit mayhem, as this link shows. Especailly with a hyper sensitive muslim world, the cops would be prohibited to search people with burqas more thatn safety would deem nesscessary.

I'm just tired of everybody ignoring the suffocating oppression Muslims inflict upon themselves (and want to inflict on others), but freaking out and crying Hitler every time a Western country does something that is, by comparison, trivial. It's a nauseating double standard.
