Rain Man which I watched yesterday for the first time made me feel really sad for some reason.
Children of Men was the first movie that came to mind.
Hmm. All films make me 'think' but the ones that have had the most emotional impact on me and opened my once shut eyes about cinema are: Saving Private Ryan, About Schimdt and The Pianist. Oh and probably Max Payne (can cinema really be this bad?!!) OP: Requiem is a tragedy although I don't know if I'd call it a Greek Tragedy (which is what is was known in "Shakes" day) A Greek Tragedy is when a character is overwhelmed by his pride and only when it is too late and he is damned can he view his mistakes.Requiem For a Dream was a movie that really made me think about the world and how people perceive each other and themselves. Ultimately, the four main people are the instruments of their own demise due to their various addictions; it is reminiscient of a Shakespearean tragedy. Although i was left somewhat depressed by this movie i have to say that it was very well done. To quote Franz Kafka, art that give us a grim realization are like an "axe to break the seas frozen inside our soul."

The one movie that I am still thinking of constantly even to this day is 2001. It is just incredibly complex and I still have trouble wrapping my head around it.-Sun_Tzu-One could argue it is the most complex movie ever, even the guys who made it said they didn't know what it was about. The DVD is at the top of my Christmas list. Requiem for a Dream is a great movie, but I can't watch it too often. The Matrix was a pretty cool concept.
So is it 2001: A space odyssey? or what is the full title. I'm curious nowSouL-Tak3RThat is the full title
I had no clue what that movie was all about until I looked it up online. It was fun to watch though ;)Mulholland Drive

equilibrium (very under-rated movie)Luci4It's okay. It was basically Fahrenheit 451 or Brave New World.
Babel - four different stories on how some can be unlucky. Powerful and excellent soundtrack.Thorpe89And here I was thinking the theme was about the shared common human condition despite cultural and language barriers - hence the dialogue is mixed up yet we still understand, and see the underlying similarities between what we're seeing and what we're hearing - and the title is 'Babel' in reference to the biblical story of language.

Its a Wonderful Life (old movie but still a classic) -> made me appreciate the family I have

The Matrix was a pretty cool concept. 2001 isn't the most complex movie ever, it just leaves out vital clues as to what is going on. The book tells you what's going on and it's fairly straight forward. What people miss is the incredible sexual visual metaphors - Long fallic space ship approaches large black void, shoots tiny pod out containing tiny man into the black void and a star child is born. Well, ok, as a movie it has complexity.
12 Monkeys made me think the first time I saw it, mostly about the possibilities of Time Travel. Let the right one in made me think too, but in a different way. Not intellectual, but it made me think of myself in that situation, then I realized I would probably be dead pretty soon or would screw something up. Same with CIty of God.Film-GuyCity of god was amazing, another that made me think was Momento.
[QUOTE="kayn83"]I think the first Matrix movie made me say "holy crap, that was friggen crazy" and then I started to think the metaphysical possibilities of the entire story. Mind you, I was young but still.zpirit
A friend actually gave away all his cigarettes and wallet money after seeing The matrix saying, that it isnt real so he wouldnt be needing it.
After that he tried running on walls, didnt go to well though, he wasnt young, just stupid.
