:? Do explain how some of the leading pc/laptop manufacturers are crap.
Dogswithguns
Crappy "made in China" build quality. If you want a cheap, disposable laptop that will fall apart in a year or two, go with one of those brands.
If you want something that will last, get a Fujistu, IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad, Panasonic Toughbook, Apple, or Sony Vaio.
I have a Toshiba. my daughters have an Acer, and a Gateway. and it's been almost 4 years now, never broke once.... Dells are over priced.
I had a Toshiba and it fell to crap in less than a year. It had to have the motherboard replaced three times. It would randomly, spontaneously shut off, sometimes right in the middle of me working on a paper. The original power brick it came with made a loud, high pitched hissing sound. The battery died in under a year with minimal use. The build quality was so bad, the DVD drive would not stay in place and would fall out of the side of the notebook. Keep in mind this was a notebook which cost $1300 and had top of the line specs when I bought it. It had a three year warranty, and I was having to have onsite service come out and repair the thing every 3-6 months.
The icing on the cake was when I took it apart to gut it for any usuable parts once the warranty expired. Critical parts inside were held together by masking tape. I wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry when I saw that.
My girlfriend also had a Toshiba and the onboard video died twice. She also had a hard drive go bad. After a year and a half, she was so frustrated with all the problems she was having, she ended up just getting a new notebook.
My mother had a Toshiba, and hers would overheat and shut off.
The build quality of the Toshibas is so terrible in my experience, I have no idea how there hasn't been a huge lawsuit.
