I saw this earlier, and it made me wonder why that was the one issue that the dude decided to crusade against. Is he gonna run for mayor/governor/president on the 'I fough iPod related traffic fatalities' platform or something?ShaigusGood point haha. I never thought of that.
Pedestrians have the right of way first. They don't care how many people get hit by cars. It's a front. A deception. It's just another reason to fine people.
Besides a COP won't sight you for that **** unless you really piss him or her off. It's a waste of their time and trivial **** like that is just a hassle. They don't get anything for ticketing people. So if it's trivial and just a hassle, they won't bother.
There was also a law that you will be fined for spitting on the ground.Superironiclink or BS. It's pretty random, but using a cellphone does break concentration, so just like in a car, it makes you more prone to screwing up badly. I don't think this should ever be made into a law, but the fact that cellphones break concentration should be told to everyone.

Don't be an ASS. It's for safety. Depending on the circumstances you could be ticketed for jay walking. If IT'S NOT WRECKLESS.. IT IS NOT JAY WALKING!! If you don't cause a traffic disruption or accident you didn't jay walk.  During a human versus car collision the car always wins. So the pedestrian has the right of way. ALWAYS
Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way. ALWAYS. The driver's test regarding pedestrians is. "Who has the right of way, under which circumstances and when?" The answers are. PEDESTRIANS, ANY and ALWAYS.
Getting ticketed for spitting on the sidewalk is a common law. It's because of chew. People used to spit tobacco everywhere.

QFT. Pedestrians ALWAYS have the right of way. It's for safety reasons.
And if you would run down pedestrians because of misconceptions of the way the law works (they shouldn't be jaywalking!), then you're an ass and you need to be removed from the gene pool, imho. :P
On the Australian news it said 400 people die a year from walking out into a car and most wear listening to an MP3/playing games or talking/texting on a phone so there might be a reason for this but I don't think there should be a fine people just need to smarten up and don't get so distracted. clubhaxorI'm willing to bet that more pedestrians die from other causes in motor related accidents.
so intead of policemans attention going towards looking out for muggers, shifty looking characters, helping out at the scene of a crime or accident.... theyre going to be looking for whos listening to music whilst crossing a road. good work government!nickmagHey! Those people are dangerous!
