What is it and why? No excuses like you have lots of favourites!
Mine:
Apocalypse Now - Because I love surrealism and war movies and this film gives the best of both.

Psh blood gets on the camera...how nooby :P. (gah that scene is so fantastic) But yea my favorite is Synecdoche, New York so far.Children of Men.
I just can't think of anything bad about it. At all. I've tried, but I just can't.

Dog Day Afternoon - Generally acting isn't my top priority as an aesthetic in films but the biggest reason I love DDA is Pacino's performance, which I maintain thinking is the greatest of all time.
Jason Bourne trilogy
Bourne Supremacy
Tom Cronin: He's making his first mistake.
Nicky: It's not a mistake. They don't make mistakes. They don't do random. There's always an objective. Always a target.
Pamela Landy: The objectives and targets always came from us. Who's giving them to him now?
Nicky: Scary version? He is.
Pamela Landy: What if I can't find her?
Jason Bourne: It's easy. She's standing right next to you.(as he looks down the scope)
Raiders of the Lost Ark takes number one for me. In terms of pure escapism, it doesn't get better than Indiana Jones. Throw in the childhood hero factor, and it's easily my all time fav.
Correct answerThe Shawshank Redemption. A nearly perfect film adaptation of a nearly perfect novella.
Although I'm probably a little more biased than most as I read the novella first (and a book is almost always better than a film adaption).

To Kill a Mockingbird, probably.AllicrombieI watched that movie and I'm pretty sure I'm missing something because it didn't entirely get to me.. maybe a repeat viewing will help :)
For me it has to be a little known movie named Gattaca

Gattaca was an awesome movie, and one that more people need to see.
I refuse to pick a single movie as my favorite. There are just too many great ones.
EDIT- If someone put a gun to my head and forced me to pick one, I'd say Star Trek- First Contact.
Taxi Driver: Simply because I think Travis is a great movie character (maybe the greatest) and I kind of identify myself with him. Also Cybill Shepherd was gorgeous in that movie.
To Kill a Mockingbird, probably.AllicrombieDefinitely prefer the book to the movie on that one, a few things were absent from the movie

I think I agree with this one... Sure I didn't see it until 20 or so years after it came out, but everything about it, I just loved. It's one of those movies I can watch over and over again and not get tired of (and very few movies are like that for me).
Love, love, LOVE that movie. My favorite is a tie between There Will Be Blood and Children Of Men.For me it has to be a little known movie named Gattaca

The Fountain. I throw it on once a month. It was really hard trying to decide between my favorite Aronofsky, Kaufman, Anderson, and Coen movies.

the fountain is one of my favariot i think i saw it 3times to get the point i like fight club too
but best movie "the taxi driver" or "godfather"
Spaceballs. Why? I did nothing but watch that when I was a kid. It's so hilarious, such a funny movie and I can watch it whenever and whatever kind of mood I'm in. JustPlainLucasI agree, so many great scenes and quotes...incredibly funny movie.
I don't have a "flat out" favorite but one of my top picks is Major Barbara from 1941. Although the political message is a tad overbearing towards the end, overall the actors, their characters, and the dialogue are just amazing things of beauty to behold.
