[QUOTE="bogaty"][QUOTE="Ninja-Hippo"] 300 was based off greek mythology/history however. They pretty much had to kill him, because that's how the story goes. They'd have been slaughtered if they changed a greek legend to have the main character live. I am Legend was just stupid though. "There's loads of room in here, there's really no reason why you have to die at all." "No.... i'll sacrifice myself..." "Um ok, suit yourself.."cheeselover
It was? I don't recall reading about 2 metre tall cross dressing Persian kings with undead minions or fatties with bone swords for arms in any of the stories about Thermopylae. That film was a steaming turd from start to finish. One of the worst films I've ever had the misfortune to sit through.
As for crappy endings, The Abyss was pretty craptastic.
Did you happen to notice the person that was narrating the entire story? That's right, it was a Spartan, the only one left alive. Now can you imagine how a Greek, at war with Persians, might describe Persians? Yes, like monsters. All of the characters were exaggerations of truth, from the story of Diomedes.Oh yes, I get the whole idea that it was mythologizing the Greeks in much the same way that the far superior film, Troy, stripped itstelling of the story of all the mythology and attempted to show that war as a struggle of ordinary men who would later become mythologized. My problem with 300 is that its got zero substance. It's a triumph of empty, overly stylized imagery with a poorly told story full of historical omissions and blatant errors. It's a terrible movie.
