Me and my wife are coming into a " lot " of money and looking to settle down in Florida we have been looking at Miami,Panama City and Orlando. We like big tall skyscrapers, beaches( we never have seen clear beach water in person before ) nice malls and sunset strips and not a ghetto since we live in the ghetto now.

Im 23 and she is 19 and we are African American and hopefully not to many communitys are racist( we are looking for houses in the 300,000 range) with also a 4 year old and another baby due in September.

Orlando doesn't have tall buildings, and almost everyone is increasingly Hispanic. The big problem is crime. Miami is near the coast, and it does have tall buildings along the beach; but it's even more Hispanic than Orlando, and the heat can seriously break people. It's a very diverse place, but there is bound to be racism everywhere you go to, not just Florida. Schools are having trouble as budgets are small and places are overcrowded, meaning more teachers being laid off while there being more students in class.

Actually it does. If you're not born in Africa, you're not African. It's racist to assume every African is Black, and to assume all blacks are African. Not every black person is African, and not everyone from Africa is black. Your logic is as flawed as "Europeans are white, and I'm white, so I'm European"... If you're from Europe, sure, it's sound logic, but you're not European if you're a white dude who was born and raised in the USA.

an African American is an american citizen who has African ancestry

Surely you've heard it used as a more PC way of saying "black guy" ?

No, it's a term that's poorly used by ignorant people. If you are not from Africa, you are not African American. You're American.

Well, it is quite stupid when you think about it. My relatives are from Germany, but I was born in the U.S. When people ask me what I am, I say American. Not German-American. :? Theres nothing African about an African American, unless they're actually from Africa.

We're the only country in the world where white-folk feel the need to put PC titles on ethnicity. Blacks in the UK don't call themselves African-Brits.

People born in Canada - Canadian. People born in Russia - Russian. People born in Africa - African. People born in the USA - American. Where is this "African-American" country? Or do those people have dual citizenship in the USA and South Africa?

I love the U.S.A. It always makes me smile when I hear people saying that they're moving to new Zealand or japan or something because they can't stand it here. You don't realize how good you have it till it's gone, that's all I can say.

I've got some advice and I'm a bit older then most of the people here. I've been to Florida and know a few things about life. Florida is not a cheap state to live in. Taxes on a $300k house won't be cheap your talking between $10,000 and $15,000 a year especially near Miami. You can get a nice house for around $100,000 give or take in other areas of Florida. You also have hurricains to worry about. Insurance won't be cheap.

My sugestion is go there and check it out. Rent a car and spend a few weeks looking around. Personally I like the gulf coast better either Fort Myers or Tampa.

10k-15k...... wow and i never bought a house before but thank for the info.

as someone who has lived in florida for 23 years my advice would be not to live in orlando or miami. jacksonville is good, pensacola is nice, so is some parts of tampa.
