For an Australian, what is it like living New York?

I've never lived in New York, but it seems to be a hodge Podge of different languages, accents and national origins. I don't see why an Australian would have too hard of time fitting in.

Everyone has different preferences obviously but some would definitely be turned on by it.

It's terrible. There's no crocodiles, no outback, no kangaroos, and there are apparently "laws" against throwing my boomerang in public.

Everyone would like your accents, Guys would be jelly or think it's funny and be nice to you, girls would find it attractive or exotic so they'd try to meet or get with you.

Doesn't sound white trash enough to be a TLC show.

Depends upon what part of NY you want to live.

People are pretty friendly in upstate NY, but you would have to deal with severe weather from time to time (storms, lake effect blizzards in Buffalo).

NYC is a nightmare to drive in and is expensive to live. The expressways around town have pothole problems.

LI is a nice area but some parts are expensive, and LI people don't like people from NYC.

Most people on LI don't hate people from the city. In fact, most of the older generation here are from the city.

There's a difference between "don't like" and "hate", and that was the talk I heard from a few folks while I was there, although it has been a while since I visited LI.

I've only visited New York, never lived there. But I imagine it is much more hectic than anything you can see in Australia... it's pretty overwhelming the first time you go, and exciting.

Well, I live north of the city, but I just got back from Brissie-- did a semester at UQ and LOVED it. I guess the shoe is on the other foot, but I found Australia and Aussies to be much more pleasant than NYC. Everybody is friendly and the city is SO much cleaner in Australia. You're lucky to live where you do!

It's dirty and it smells like urine.

There are nicer parts, like Manhattan, but unless you're at least a multi-millionaire, you wouldn't be living there.

It's great out here... just be a punk and look like a tourist if you're going to travel into the hood.

But for the most part it's like any other Major US city... lots of people and lots of traffic.

Lived here all my life and I'll say the only negative is; it's REALLY expensive out here.
