1987 ah those were the good days and 90s were my favorite.

@comp_atkins: Okay but there wasn't anything on the market with a split RAM in those days. And everyone knows...
KEEP RAM EQUAL!
don't know what to tell you. maybe it was dram directly attached to the board and not in a dimm form factor, i don't know when simms or dimms started to really take off. but it was 640k :P
something like this perhaps? no expansion slots for memory, just soldered on discrete devices and a bunch of isa slots.
I'm not sure how that would work. The builds were primitive. You can't just solder a chip and expect the thing to know it was there.

did some more digging for you.
the xt 286 machines had 640k of ram. 128k installed on the board plus 2x256k simm sockets available.

Yeah, some of the 80's were good, but for me the 90's were not that kind for me for different reasons.Born in 1974.
Born in 1964. Loved the 80s.
If you didn't like your job, you could go across the street and get another one, probably for more money.
The anti-smoking Nazi movement hadn't taken over society and us smokers weren't treated like social outcasts.
No Participation Trophies
No banned words.
No Political Correctness.
Less government interference in our lives, therefore more freedom.
Having lived through the 80s as a young man, I would go back to that USA in a heartbeat. The current USA sucks balls and is going down the shitter.
Was born in 84, so I don't remember that much of the '80s., but there was still some carry over of shows, music, etc into the early 90s that I remember enjoying pretty well.

Pretty accurate post for the most part, I think the U.S has begun going downhill since the turn of the century.
I think the 80's may have been the zenith of living here in the U.S., but the 90's weren't bad either.
be careful not to confuse thinking that a decade was great overall because it was great for you specifically. like how many people will think the music when they were growing up was the greatest music ever and everything since then sucks.
The only thing good about the 80's were the toys, cartoons and video games.
Everything from music to movies to the economy sucked.

The 80's under Reagan was where the foundations were laid for the economic troubles we have now. In Reagan's first term he took our country to the biggest creditor nation on the earth, to the largest debtor nation in the world.....
@hillelslovak:
Yadda Yada yadda....I think you had to have been there and experienced the 80's. ....it was a great time for America, a country at the peak of its power. But I won't argue, if you disagree that's fine, no problem. America has gone downhill since the turn of the century....unfortunately.
Reagan may have been instrumental in creating our debt, but it was a fun time.
It just blows my mind when I see people so tied to their phones now, just yesterday a woman of about 20 was working her legs out on a machine (not a treadmill) but could not take her eyes off her phone. Maybe millenials are the world's greatest multi-taskers, but I doubt she gets very far without concentrating on her workout. Not my business but it's a specific example of a general problem these days.
heh, of course people here are going to not like the 80's.
is there any more offensive thing in the 21st century than confidence, strength and the possession of a backbone?
I think as a period in time, the 80's were important transitionally. There was some good TV then, but also people got outside more than they do now. But idk, I am glad I didn't live through most of that decade. I think in many ways the world is a better place now, albeit a much more confusing and depressing one.

'86 here, same. Unfortunately I don't remember anything from before 1990 - I was three years old after all.
this was awesome too.
There's no intro that's more epic than this. None. They need to bring this back.
@hillelslovak:
Tonight's 80's episode is about Reagan admin.
What 80's episode are you referring to? Either way, if they are talking about Reagan it will be an absolute fluff piece, ignoring all the terrible shit he did. Like when you see something about Bill Clinton, and they act like he wasn't a guy who never saw a foreign dollar he wouldn't take, while wagging his dick around the halls of power.
heh, of course people here are going to not like the 80's.

You are thinking of the 50's. The 80's for the mainstream was a cheap knock off of the 50's. Reagan was going to take us back to the glory days. Yeah right. I liked the counter culture of the 80's. Do you know how many punk bands where formed with an anti-Reagan name? A lot!

Old Mother Reagan and her crew took away from me and you!
I hope she goes far away, she better go far away...

One of the all-time greatest hardcore punk songs: "We've got a bigger problem Now" by The Dead Kennedys
Welcome to 1984
Are you ready for the 3rd World War?
You too will meet the secret police
They'll draft you and they'll jail your niece
You'll go quietly to boot camp
they'll shoot you dead make you a man
don't you worry its for a cause
Feeding global corporations claws!
Die on our brand new poison gas
El Salvador or Afghanistan
making money for President Reagan
AND ALL THE FRIENDS OF PRESIDENT REAGAN!
California Uber Alles!
....and yes mods there is one racial word in there, but if you understand the context its presented in as defence of blacks (one member of The Dead Kennedys is black), you understand why he says it. Lead singer Jello Biafro, who writes the lyrics, is not racist.
What a band!
A few random 80's videos:
The alternative/college music scene first began to get a lot of traction when this band started in 1982, they were all around 20 years old then, and the lead singer had hair then! Saw them 4 times in the 80's. This song was from the EP that came out before their masterpiece first album Murmur, one of the 80's greatest albums, unarguably.
This next video is pretty much a perfect video for the 1980's, I think it came out about 1982 or so. From what I understand this song was in GTA: Vice City on a New Wave station, good choice! :
The best band I ever saw live was this one, during the 2nd time I saw them they brought out this gem from their upcoming album at the time:
and last but not least, on the cutting edge was this band with a singer who has the voice of an angel:
heh, of course people here are going to not like the 80's.

lol. that's basically what's happening now. you can't go 5 minutes in a GOP debate without candidates trying to out-reagan each other. that all want to bring us back to the glory days of 1987.
in 20-30 years you'll have the next crop of people trying to bring us back to the glory day's of the 2000's

Reagan's tax cuts and the resulting explosion of private sector economic growth nearly doubled revenues collected by the federal government. So the idea that the tax cuts caused the deficits is BS.
Reagan believed the US was the world's best bet at defeating the scourge of Soviet communism, and increased our military spending to accomplish that goal.
The democrats who controlled congress made damn sure there was at least one extra dollar of domestic spending for every extra dollar Reagan wanted for the military.
After defeating the USSR, i.e. winning the cold war, our politicians, especially the democrats, didn't lower federal spending by cutting back military spending (i.e. the peace dividend), they just moved that spending to the domestic side to buy more votes.
