Apparently we are not alone. Check out this article:

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/09/23/aliens-monitoring-nukes-worry-ex-air-force-officers/

And then check out what the former NORAD commander had to say:

http://www.ufodigest.com/node/585

What do you guys think? Guess we'll find out on Oct. 13th!

Presumably on Oct 13, we'll get an explanation for why the date got pushed back a couple months?

Didn't this exact same thing happen around this time last year? Something about UFOs hovering over all of the world's major cities?

I don't think humanity could take it.

It WOULD have massive social consequences and utterly destroy religion.

I can only guess why he's a FORMER officer. If what he said was true, he'd already have disappeared.

MediumBread

Why would it destroy religion?

It takes away the idea of the human race being special and "chosen by God". It also throws into question the origins of God as well as why he would make us in his image yet not an alien species.

There have already been a ton of dates when aliens were supposed to reveal themselves, but so far they have never been correct.

I'm going to side with logic on this one and say he's just making this up.

Why can't god make more than one sentient race special, and more than one be "chosen"?

People always claim the strangest things when it comes to encounters. This isn't the first time someone made a claim about a contact date and was totally wrong. Hell, here in my home town some magazine actually flew helicopters out to interview people and wrote a big article about how UFO's burnt down our entire town and rebuilt it overnight :P

"The existence of extraterrestrial intelligences would have a profound impact on religion, shattering completely the traditional perspective of God's special relationship with man. The difficulties are particularly acute for Christianity, which postulates that Jesus Christ was God incarnate whose mission was to provide salvation for man on Earth. The prospect of a host of 'alien Christs' systematically visiting every inhabited planet in the physical form of the local creatures has a rather absurd aspect." -Paul davies

It also brings doubt to if the "angels" and otherworldly beings God sent down were actually supernatural beings or just aliens. It will also be strange if the aliens state that God never sent Christ to their world to die for their sins. Why would God not care about the immortal soul of alien life?

Pixel-Pirate

So one mans opinion on what would happen, who isn't a Christian leader, automatically makes all of Christianity believe that? Hmmmm

Also God sent down many supernatural beings to Earth. The proof of alien life could throw alot of doubt into those beings being messengers of God and not just aliens. Even more problematic if said species has records of having visited Earth at that time in history.

Many religions do mention celestial beings; ever heard of angels? There is no proof that aliens could not possibly look human-like.

It won't destroy religion but it will toss alot of doubt into people as to why God chose Earth and not the planet of Theta espilon 5. Why God saved our souls but not the beings of Theta Epsilon 5. Why an alien record might show they visited Earth at the time of Jesus. Why Jesus did not visit Theta Epsilon 5 to save them.

I think there would probably be abit of a religious war with an extra terrestrial race if their recording of history does not match up with ours. You'd also probably have (after the intial shock), people trying to convert and "save" the aliens who apparently all go to hell as Jesus died for the sins of man, not the sins of all sentient life.

I think it would be even more interesting if the aliens claimed they were the ones who created Christianity in the first place! (Don't ask why they would though...)

That was another point I made. If alien records showed that they visited at this time, but they said they were not divine beings, that would throw abit of a wrench in the idea that the beings who visited Earth were servants of God and not aliens.

It also makes me wonder why the catholic church denied the existence of aliens untill, what, a couple years ago?
