I'm a fan of Green Day and there is no way in hell Billie Joe Armstrong is as talented as Beethoven, and I think that is something that even Billie Joe Armstrong would agree with. X_X
She is nuts, she says that the Jonas Brothers are better than the beatles and she even dared to say that the G.I. Joe movie was better than the newest Star Trek movie. She even said that Pearl Harbor was a better war movie than Saving Private Ryan :? Do you have friends like that?

I thought I had some friends with bad taste, but that is just something else. I seriously think she is doing it on purpose to have such terrible taste.
I'd say the average viewer likes simple plots with no substance, stereotypical characters with a cliche plot and famous actors. So this is understandable.

Scenario; You grab 100 nobodies off the street, completely average citizens and put them in a theater and made them watch two movies: One movie is probably the greatest character study in all of movie history, it's visceral, real, heart wrenching, it has a deep and multi layered plot, the acting is superb, there's enough sub text to fill 500 movies, the score is brilliant, the cinematography is awe inspiring and the direction leaves your jaw hanging. This same movie is long, takes thought to actually understand the plot, has no CG or special effects, stars absolutely nobody note worthy, and has very little or no action. The other movie is Transformers 2.
I'd be willing to bet that 80% of the people who watched the two movies enjoyed Transformers 2 more. Why? the majority of people just love simple, mindless CG filled movies and can't appreciate fine art in cinema, it's just how it is. Look at box office results as proof.

Exactly. People who say Fight Club is one of the top 5 movies out there are nuts. It's a good movie, but come on. I wouldn't even qualify it as a good film. It's not anywhere close to being Fincher's best, more close to being his worst.
I just saw the trailer for the new Twilight movie (they had to call it the Twilight Saga. I guess the audience is too dumb to know what the sequel is?) and I couldn't help but laugh. It looks so freaking lame!! I mean come on, I guess it is going to be like the Jonas Bros or Hannah Montana; no one knows why the hell they are so popular. Man, those marketing people are geniuses to keep those people going, because they aren't going on with talent.
So what you're saying is you don't have to see something to know whether you like something or not.

You can use reasoning and logic to figure out if you will like something without having experienced it first hand. That's sort of what they are there for.

That part is the most disturbing of all! And I am not a big Beatles fan even though I love Rubber Soul and Revolver.
I had the exact opposite experience... Twilight = poorly written, ill paced novel with extremely long and boring descriptions OR well shot, decently acted, condensed and fairly entertaining movie.
Considering how much I despised Fight Club, I'm almost inclined to agree even though I haven't seen Twilight. It would have to be pretty gosh darn awful for me to rank it lower than Fight Club.
