full metal jacket is the greatest war movie of all time.

just got it off ebay (thanks to those who suggested it). my previous fav's were saving private ryan (yeah, i know) and apocalypse now (which is still OK), but it leaves those for dead. what are your thoughts?

It's about German soldiers on the Russian front. The main character is Sgt. Steiner who has to survive constant attacks by the Russians, and deal with a new arrogant and upper class Captain. It is one of the few WW2 films that shows the Germans as being humans, heck the two main characters openly hate Hitler and the Nazi party. It does have an American actor playing the main character, but the actor James Coburn is so damn good you really stop caring after a while. It also has the always great James Mason. I highly recommend it.

Enemy at the gates could have been a classic, but that damn love story ruined it for me. I like Ed Harris, and Jude Law though.

My favorite War film is not really a movie but a series named Band of Brothers.
