"A dude is someone who works on a ranch"? I didn't get that part.

Probably one of the most difficult things about being a cop is controlling your temper. All day you're dealing with people who are doing things that you're supposed to stop, and most of them don't take kindly to being asked to stop. Anyways, he obviously went overboard here. But it's not like he beat the kid up or something, and I agree with him that there are a lot of people who need to learn when to shut up and pay attention, particularly when you're confronted by the police. I don't care if the kid 'didn't hear' because he was listening to his iPod. When a police officer approaches you and starts talking to you, you stop what you're doing and listen, because the officer wouldn't be approaching you just to say hi.pianistUnless he was your friend :D.
[QUOTE="kdt55"]You did it guys...you defended the indefensible! Apple pie for everyone.pianist
But it is defensible. The kid was being a little asshat and the officer chewed him out. Again, it's not like he beat him up or arrested him or something. He just yelled at him.
What did the kid do that was so bad?

He was skateboarding in a prohibited area, and after being asked to stop, he started being lippy with a police officer. You can hear it in his voice, even on the video, and if you listen to the dialogue, it's clear that the kid IS being arrogant and defensive until his friends finally convince him to sit down and shut up. And I still don't buy the "I didn't hear you" BS. Why the hell did he leave his ear plugs in when a police officer was talking to his friends? Why keep skateboarding when it was clear his friends had been asked to stop?

did you see the video? also its not the officers place to chew out anyone who is being rude.... Cops are't dads they are cops.... the officer went overboard in every way possible....did you see the video? also its not the officers place to chew out anyone who is being rude.... Yes, I did see the video. The only 'scuffle' that was involved was the cop taking the skateboard away from the kid when he refused to hand it over, then refused to sit down when being told to do so. And I frankly don't care if the officer was the one to deliver this speech to the kid, because clearly no one else taught him that back-talking to a cop and refusing to follow his instructions is stupid.
Like I said initially, the cop over-reacted in this case, but if I were the disciplinary board, I would have done nothing more than a minor reprimand. As for the kid, I hope he learned something. I really can't stand people who have no respect for law enforcement, because they grow up with that attitude and often start breaking laws which are more serious than riding a skateboard in a prohibited area.

umm the kid was slammed to the ground.... thats assult, when normal ppl do it they get fines and time in jail.... Also over all the cop was acting crazy and over temporal... if there is a problem the cop should either warn the kids and walk away or arrest them....like i said Cops are not there to give ppl "manors"... you are free to be as big an "asshat" you want to be....

Yeah, he sure was slammed into the ground. I'll bet that left a mark. The officer 'twirled' him onto the ground (quite gently, I may add), then shoved him when he tried to stand up again. I've seen worse things on an elementary school playground.
This had nothing to do with manners. This has to do with obeying the police. The entire situation could have been easily avoided if he had just given up the skateboard. Hell, he wouldn't have even lost the skateboard in the first place if he had done what the rest of his friends obviously did and paid attention when the officer was addressing them. But I'm sure you don't notice little details like that.

No . . . there is a reason that particular law was in place and there was a VERY good reason why that kid should have respected it. The best way with dealing people his age is to be as calm as possible but also strict as is possible without going over the edge, otherwise it's simply impossible to get through to them, it also protects them in a way by preventing them from getting into deeper trouble. Like pianist I agree, the cop went overboard at first, but he needed to set an example and he did that just fine, although not as well as he should've.[QUOTE="killtactics"]umm the kid was slammed to the ground.... thats assult, when normal ppl do it they get fines and time in jail.... I hate it when people these days count every little sign of physical contact as assault. OMG he twirled him onto the ground!: ASSAULT He's grabbing him by the wrists!: ASSAULT He (frigging) tapped his shoulder!: RAPE . . . okay assault. You need to loosen up, force can work wonders when used properly. I was smacked once or twice when I was younger, it bloody hurt but at least I didn't try to cross the line again.hate it when people these days count every little sign of physical contact as assault. Awesome...
Anyways, I agree. There was no assault here. I think a lot of people just don't like the police because the police prevent them from doing whatever they want. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if some forumites here have had brushes with the police over similar things. They obviously won't see this situation with any objectivity at all.

I agree. I bet they didn't learn the right lessons either.[QUOTE="AlternatingCaps"]I love the pants pulled up to his man boobspianist

I also love the end... when you hear him say "is that camera on? Because if I find myself on..."
And you just know 'Youtube' is the word that got cut off.
Hah hah, I doubt that his 33 year oldfriend would be scared though. :lol:I understand that these kids can be annoying, but the least of that cop's worries should be a 14 year old skater kid. I think it's a pretty disgusting display of authority and shouldn't be tolerated. Think if that kid was your son/daughter.MedicMike66
wouldn't have been rude to the cop in the first place then...

People are rude to them all the time -- they're cops. I doubt he's ever put an adult in a headlock for being rude over a traffic violation. Some cops will pick on the weak and the defenseless and i've seen it several times; not all mind you but those who have an alpha-male complex. I'm sure if a cop harassed you and became excessively over such a minor offense, i'm sure you would think, "I shoudln't have been rude to that cop, my bad."

If a cop grabs you and pushes you to the ground because you were being a 'smarty pants' would that be ok with you? Yeah, I'm sure you would say "well, I should of stood up straight and addressed the officer in a polite manner and kept my mouth shut..I deserved it". Yeah right, blow it out your ***. You'd probably want that cop to be punished. But its just a punk skater, so who cares, right.kdt55
But he didn't grab him and push him to ground because he was being a smarty pants. He grabbed him and pushed him down because he refused to hand over his skateboard when requested. If you do that to a cop, you'll end up on the ground. Until the kid started lipping off, everything was fine, and they would have just been sent on their way. Even his friends were telling him to shut up.
If a police officer demanded that I turn something over and I got taken down because I was refusing to comply, I wouldn't be stupid enough to think I'd have a reason to complain.
It's probably been said... but I'm lazy. It refers to a "Dude Ranch".http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kBeB81PPlng

This whole damn courtroom is out of line?
That's it. Get in the box!The cop was out of line, I agree. But you have to remember how hard it would be to remain proffesional in that kind of situation. Obviously asking the kids nicely to stop wouldn't have done anything.ImaPirate0202
That doesn't seem obvious to me from watching the video.
