ok, so i was going door to door handing out fliers for a political campagne my mom works for. I get to this one house that has a "no soliciting sign" so i ask the guy i was with what to do. he said just give them the flier, be friendly and leave. i ring the doorbell and this guy who was really short (he was a dwarf), comes out, points to the sign and says "what does this say? can you read?" i said i was giving free information on this campaign and the guy interupts me saying "i dont give a F@$%, get the F&%@ off my property!" I respond with a well deserved attitude and leave.

my question is, how would you have responded to this jerk? later reflecting on it, i realize i shouldve made a insult about his height or at least i couldve called him a bad name, but i was too slow because it all happened to fast.

so what would you have done?

Well your first mistake was not respecting the "No Solicitors" sign. You know what? If I were you in that situation, I'd at least have the dignity to give him an apology.

"No Solicitors" doesn't just mean, "Don't try and sell me stuff.", it means "**** off."

He didn't want to bothered by anyone.

btw, i thought (at the time) that "no solicitors" meant people selling something or talking about their religion. i merely wanted to give the dude a flier and leave.

You could have easily just left the flyer without ringing the doorbell.

Someone comes to my door. I tell them to "f&ck off" They threaten me with physical violence. Then they're leaking on my lawn.

If you didn't want the home's owner to be angry at you, why didn't you respect the "No Solicitors" sign? You come onto Gamespot and tell us your story expecting sympathy for something you could have easily avoided.

You deserved the reaction because you need to learn respect peoples' privacy.

Oh yeah, if you ever run into a situation like that where you have to give a flyer to someone inside a house with a "No Solicitors" sign out in front, if you REALLY want the person to recieve the flyer just leave it on their doorstep without ringing the doorbell.

BTW last time somebody showed up to my place like that to sollicitate me, it was a hot young blond girl selling some crap about a spa and golf place... it was rainy, so I invited her inside to talk about her crap, offered some coffee, ended up talking half an hour about some crap (she was a police officer student and I don't know what) and I ended up with her number LOL

too bad at the time I still thought I had a chance to develop something with this other girl, I ended up never calling her... it was a really fun half hour though.

first of all, i was told it was ok by the adults i was with considering im not actually selling anything but giving something away for free which is no big deal.

secondly, i didnt deserve to get cussed at for no reason, nor do i deserve to get dumped on by you people on gamespot.

and im not coming here for sympathy or support like you said. i only came to tell what happened and ask what you would have done. I didnt come here to get flamed either.

what is the matter with you people? how could you defend this guy? I didnt deserve his reaction at all! I wasnt even soliciting, I was advertising! I was friendly to him as i possibly could have been and i got the F-bomb dropped for no reason. The only reason why I still rung the doorbell was becasue i thought it was ok because i thought what i was doing didnt count as soliciting. His reaction was totally innapropriate. all he had to say was "no thank you" and we wouldnt have an issue. that would have at least been respectfull.

what would have happened if girl scouts came to his door selling cookies? what would you say if he gave the same reaction to them even if they are 6 year old girl scouts trying to rasie money?

jeez... last time i share an opinion on the internet...

what is the matter with you people? how could you defend this guy?

Neo-ganon

solicit-: to make petition to :entreat b: to approach with a request or plea

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/solicit

Solicit doesn't just mean "to sell" it means to request or plea. That would involve things like....hmmm let's see... asking for votes.

If girl scouts would have came to his door, I would assume that they would have read the sign and left the guy alone.

i wasnt asking for his vote either, I was giving him free information in case he wanted to look into it on his own time. there is a difference.

This is why I need to get a "We shoot trespassers" sign.

People actually READ that one.

And? If there is a sign telling people "No soliciters", noone wants you there.

So don't go there.

Whoever you were with needs to be hit with a shovel, for being such a douche, by telling you to go anyway.

Why the hell did he open the door if he put the sign out.
