Thoughts?

I think the government spent way to much money on it, those are my tax dollars and the police are being given to much power. But I don't think the protesters should be setting cars on fire.

If you don't know what the problem is, the Canadian government spent a billion dollars on security. No other country holding these events have spent that much money. Stephan Harper has built a fake lake. The police have the right to search you on the streets of Toronto and there are lots of barricades. This is causing protests in both Huntsville and Toronto.

The police are given too much power? There people setting cop cars on fire and breaking store windows and all the police are doing is keeping a perimeter.

Who cares if cops can search you? Got anything to hide?

I'm looking at the news, and the first thing that went to my mind was "OMG did Maple Leafs went bankrupt or something?" Because the only plausible explanation I could come up with upon seeing a news about such violent protest on Canadian soil is that it has to have something to do with hockey.

The government's admitting to $1.2 bn as of today. That's more than the operating budget for the GTA for an entire year. I think the whole thing's a sham. Part prok to finance minister Clement's riding, part massive payout to private security goonsquads that Harper and his cronies have close business ties with, and part fear on the part of the weasel scum private investment bankers who're really calling the shots for this farce. Burning cars is just stupidity. I suspect some has been instigated by agent provocateurs placed in the ranks of the protesters by the OPP or RCMP. They've both got a history of doing this in the past. It demonises legitimate dissent and allows the crooks in charge to justify the obscene expenditure for security at future meetings. The idiot public will believe every word and go back to watching soccer or somesuch.

$1 billion pricetag for G20 summit.

Weaselly little crook tries to justify $1 billion dollar security pricetag.

In roll the conspiracy theories about how Stephen Harper is really a British born American that was sent to Canada to dislodge the economy in America's favor and that all rich, political, or those who are cops are evil.

FrostyPhantasm

When they spend 1.2 billion on security alone for the G20 event, you know they are fearful about something. Obama, Harper, and Bush all have pretty much the same policies. Believe it or not, these policies are crashing the economy worldwide. I mean they can't not even plug the hole in the golf for the past 2 effing months, when they easily could, yet they let it destroy the fishing and sea economies.

Calling anything a conspiracy theory just because it doesn't fit in with your reality tunnel is pretty ridiculous. I can already see your limited view from accusing anybody who steps out of the left-right paradigm that they honestly believe every cop, political figure, and rich person are "evil". You really are of dualistic perception.

From what I've seen, the violent response of the "protesters" (read: sh__-disturbers) completely justifies the cost. Could you imagine if we had inadequate police response yesterday? Things could have gotten much, much worse.

See? I told you in my previous post. The reactionary public who're spoon-fed fear and lies in 30 second sound-bites will now fully be on board with this theft of what is now reported as $1.7 billion of our treasury. If these crroks were really truly representative of the will of the majority, there would be no need for this kind of security.

You'd better watch your tone buddy.

I have friends and family in Toronto who are endangered by these people you're defending. The only thing between them and martial law downtown is the police. Four police cars were set on fire yesterday.

Does that sound like peaceful protesters to you? The people who are getting all the media attention don't give a damn about the issues, they're just trying to incite a riot. Affect change through proper channels, not mob violence.

As an ex-Torontonian, I am ashamed that I have lived in the same city as those hooligans. They riot for the sake of rioting and accomplish nothing. Peaceful protests that have clearly defined goals and objectives accomplish far more than destroying police cars and vandalizing stores.

Most of them are paid provocateurs, to justify the expenses and discredit the peaceful exploitation of globalization. Read about controlled oppositions, CO-INTEL-PRO and the likes. People who are actually in the know (not the fake story the media feeds you) are disgusted at these violent protests, and most of us know they are instigated by C.I.A.

Well protest arent meant to be compliant.....

the amount of police at the pittsburgh conference was nothing compared to the Toronto protest. More people can also add more fuel to the fire.

To those who think that the vandals that are buring cars and breaking shop windows are trying to get a point across, can I come over and burn your car and break all the windows in your house or business to prove a point?

It is one thing to carry signs and have speeches and the like to protest something, but, to systematically destroy stuff, thus needing a bigger police presense than what is really needed is absurd and waters down or negates the reason for protesting. They are criminals and nothing more. Their acts are the whole reason why police have to search people. Why do you need a club or baseball bat to protest?

I will be around shortly to burn your cars.

I think the G8 and G20 were a complete waste of time and money. This could have all been accomplished using video conferencing. There is absolutely no point in meeting in various countries and wasting so much of our money which actually could have gone to somthing useful, not this silly, pointless meeting.

Thoughts? Most of those protestors are idiots who cause riots just to get attention. Some are pretty creative and pretty cool though.

I know because the G-20 was in Pittsburgh back in September.

carrot-cake

From what I've seen, the only people who were causing destruction of property were those idiots in the black hoods and clothes.....

Anarchists? Yep.

I remember back when Pittsburgh G-20 was starting, Anarchists were going to take water guns with their own urine in it..:?

So what does burning **** and breaking glass accomplish? And before I get a conspiracy nut talking without any legitimate proof (as they tend to do), it is not paid undercover cops doing all of this. While I'm sure there are a few, you cannot say that every single incident of violence has been committed by an authority figure acting as an enraged protester. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but are these summits not just largely symbolic, with arguably no real progress being made?

Hurrr lets destroy other peoples property to protest. I wish the police would just mow them all down. with an epic barrage of rubber bullets or live rounds. Every G-20,G-8 summit has this crap and I'm not exactly sure what these people are accomplishing except wasting tax money.

And then complain about the amount of money spent on security.

I love how people here just generalize like everyone was who protested was destroying property.

In roll the conspiracy theories about how Stephen Harper is really a British born American that was sent to Canada to dislodge the economy in America's favor and that all rich, political, or those who are cops are evil.

conspirethis

Hardly. People live, People die, people wish to make legacies, legacies become undone. They "can't not" plug the hole because they haven't tried yet, it's all been BP because BP said they could handle it, and what persay would this triage of superpowers want to destroy some of their land and trades for? Why would they wish to dislodge the world economy? So that people like China and Russia can steamroll everyone when it comes down to 3rd party armies and proxies?

From what I've seen, the violent response of the "protesters" (read: sh__-disturbers) completely justifies the cost. Could you imagine if we had inadequate police response yesterday? Things could have gotten much, much worse.

conspirethis

Most of them are paid provocateurs, to justify the expenses and discredit the peaceful exploitation of globalization. Read about controlled oppositions, CO-INTEL-PRO and the likes. People who are actually in the know (not the fake story the media feeds you) are disgusted at these violent protests, and most of us know they are instigated by C.I.A.

beautiful to someone who sees what going on all the violence at g20 is started by undercover police provacitiers:

u have to realize they use these events to justify more police and brutality, its the police fighting the undercover police acting as violent protesters to give the peaceful protesters a bad rap, then the people not smart enough to see this charade think its just a bunch of dumb hippies acting out, when they real thing they are doing is distracting u from what the g20 is really about world leader taking ur money and liberties away a little more year after year, and we keep drinking the kool-aide
