I haven't been keeping up with news recently (or for the past 6 months at all really) so it comes as a surprise to me that this was being held in Canada and an even bigger surprise that my government is spending over a billion dollars on security... money that could have gone to other things we needed. My question is, how does this stimulate the economy or help the less fortunate? If there is no contribution of any of that money or these people coming here to those two things, then I can do nothing but chastise the government for, yet again, another dumbass move.

Well, whatever, I know I won't be voting conservative in the next election... or liberal... or NDP... or Green... so I probably won't be voting unless the Parti Quebecois start campaigning in Manitoba.

Considering that two police cars got set on fire, the police had to stop a riot with pepper spray, rubber bullets, and smoke bombs, black bloc protesters tried to lure police away from the leaders... I say it was well spent. 20 of the world's most important are all in one place and a bunch of crazed anarchists are rioting. Happens at every G20 meeting.

So the cops sent in a couple agent provocateurs to rile up the idiots and goad them into violence. This works. Next day, the cops throw all pretence of law and due process out the window and round up any of the peasants foolish enough to try and set foot outside. This includes citizens who live in the zone, reporters, and peaceful protesters. No charges, just straight up arrests and often with unwarranted violence on the part of the police.

Now we get reactionary fools saying that the $1.2 billion was money well spent and the precedent is set to do this every time the crooks meet. If they were truly representing the will of the people, this level of draconian security wouldn't be necessary. If the leaders are so precious, why not hold these meetings via video conference instead? Or on a military base? Or in a remote location such as the old base in Thule, Greenland?

Ridiculous budget. And if these provocateurs are a reality (which it seems they are), it's also fraud being committed on the taxpayers. Sometimes it's hard to believe how stupid and ****ed up government gets sometimes. Hopefully Harper doesn't get re-elected.

Ridiculous budget on what? Spending on defending the riots?

Well then idiots shouldn't riot. Then the Government wouldn't have to spend so much.

Or they could spend a reasonable amount. Why has every other G20 summit spent a fraction of what we spent on security? Why do we need freakin sound cannons, water cannons, and more police officers in Toronto than residents?

I kinda get the feeling that you're not entirely familiar with the details behind this G20 meeting.

Because the riots are getting pretty bad. Cop cars burning? Thats certainly not good.
