Gamespot Fired Jeff Gerstmann For Review

Yes I know this is very very old news. I never heard the truth and forgot about it until now. Did he really get fired for giving Kane and Lynch a bad score? Has he said anything?

I don't think he ever confirmed that was the reason, but considering the circumstances, and other editors quitting because they believed that was what happened as well, its hard to say it was something else.

He was always my favourite reviewer and shame left :( but hes at giantbomb now :)

He seems to have implied it on various occasions on the Giant Bombcast, such as allusions to some other magazine writer getting fired for something similar. There was sort of an audio "wink" there in the tone they used. I think he is legally prohibited from confirming it for whatever reason.

I don't read them either. I message Justin once in a while and catch what Kevin posts on Facebook but that's the extent of my Gamespotting. I just post on the forums now.DJ_Lae

Yeah, a lot points to the Kane and Lynch being the reason he got fired. He has his own website now though if you still want to read his reviews.

The only reason why I came here in the first place was for the forums, so the whole Jeff debacle didn't matter to me, and still doesn't.

It hasn't been the same for Gamespot since he left. So much staff have left since then. Reviews and coverage just aren't the same.

i remember everyone hating Jeff because of the Twilight Princess review, then everyone sided with him when he got fired :roll:lonewolf604

And yeah, Jeff Gertsmann has hinted heavily that it was because of the Kane and Lynch review. He never actually confirmed it though.

Jeff was cool and everything, but the one I truly miss is Rich Gallup. Button Mashing was the best.

GiantBomb was an awesome site with awesome people that I loved to post on for the first few months. Then the mods got power hungry and just started screwing over the Off-Topic forum for no good reason. People complain about GS mods, but at least they know off-topic forms are for just that: off-topic. They don't care if we have a WAYLT thread or Roll Call or whatever. GiantBomb apparently does.dreDREb13

I suspect that the review was the final straw. I think Jeff and the GS management at the time had several ongoing issues.
