all i see is

http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/europe/04/03/nato.members/index.html

"Earlier Thursday, alliance members decided not to include Ukraine and Georgia among its new members after strong objections from Russia. However, NATO pledged that the two countries would eventually become members, while also inviting Albania and Croatia to become members of the 26-nation alliance

...

Russia had opposed membership for the former Soviet republics, wary that NATO's eastward march, including the missile defense shield, could erode its influence in those countries."

Interests? Such as. You should look behind your bias cause it reeks from your posts. Russia can't take those countries back because politics isn't as simple as take and conquer. The oil pipeline was bombed by Russia accidently, if they wanted it they would have made sure not to damage it eh? it was also disconnected and have nearly no effect on the worlds oil prices. If Russia seized that Pipeline, it would have been deeply dissapointed. Russia retaliated against the Georgian shelling of SOuth Ossetia and the death of 2000 of now 2000 of their citizens.argetlam00

Bombing a pipeline by mistake? Yeah I am sure they "accidently" bombed an oil pipeline that is providing competition for their oil sales to Europe. They don't need to seize the pileline, just take it out, without that pipeline, Russia could move more Oil to Europe.

Also those death totals are only from the Russians, You are speaking of bias against the Russians, but Russia sources aren't really the best place for info, and Georgia had been saying Russians and South Ossetians had been killing Georgians.

Power isn't everything, or the US would have conquered the world. Political climates are very complex. And Georgia is a great uS and western ally. Occupying them is not wise for Russia and US would never let it happen. Russia knows this, that is why they halted military action.

argetlam00
False. The US may get involved in wars I don't always agree with..but we've never tried to conquer the world. Seriously dude. Let's stick to facts.

Indeed...Russia has plans for those countries and doesn't want them protected. Common sense is all one needs to see this.

You said that powerful countries can take over their neighbours no problem. So why doesn't US invade and take over Cuba, Canada and Mexico? Exactly. politics is deeper then that.

It could be some plan to get U.S. involved, you never know. Especially as the news on some websites says the Georgia PM or something expects U.S. to come to their aid and help.

Well Georgia really was hoping for US or NATO support, so they got all pissy and attacked South Osetia, cause who would the world ( especially the west) believe the old commie Russians or the poor, west-loving Georgians. Fact is Georgia attacked first, against all Russian warnings, Georgia commenced ethnic cleansing in South Osetia, Russia stepped in, and now Georgia is getting owned extra hard.

yup there kinda dumb if you ask me....they woke up the slumbering russian bear...

Lets hope Russia doesn't wake up the Sasquatch on the other side of the lake.

Actually not really. Georgia was attackign the seperatists with snipers first, they then responded by fireing at gerorgia's military and Georgia responded by shelling them. They were in an area full of civillians. Instead of sending peacekeepers and being SUPPORTED by Russia against them, they decided to shoot 10 RUssian peacekeepers and begin shelling the city.

[QUOTE="muscleserge"] Except 90% of South Osetians are Russian citizens and somewhere in between their 10 Russian peace-keepers got killed, but that isn't anything important right?LJS9502_basic
And? If they wanted to live in Russia...why aren't they? If Americans choose to move to another country and get caught up in a military action...that's on them.

Maybe you should ask the same thing to the Albanians in Kosovo. They do have a country so why don't they go back to Albania because they're Albanians?

And the fact is that Georgia did attack South Ossetia first, killing many civilians and 10 Russian peacekeepers. And please stop with the "but South Ossetia is part of Georgia" cause that doesn't justify their actions. Kosovo was part of Serbia and it would have still been even now if NATO peacekeepers wouldn't have stepped in. Probably Serbia would have done the same thing in Kosovo as Georgia in South Ossetia if it weren't for NATO.

Even Bush said it that he condemns the bombings outside South Ossetia , but then he also said something like "invading a country in the 21st century is unacceptable". lol And this coming from the president of the country that invaded Iraq.

I'm really sorry for all the people that lost their lives, Russians and Georgians, and I cannot describe in words what I felt when I saw in the news all the dead people in the streets and people crying next to them.

And what did the Georgian president think, that he'll start a war with Russian and that then EU and US will go to war with Russia and start War World 3?

Oh, and TC, Russia has started rolling their tanks further into Georgia (it's on CNN and Fox right now).

Georgia assaulted Russian supported South Ossetia. Which is an assault on Russia. Also, Russia can't gain anything from this war. While Georgia solves its territorial problem and joins NATO even if they lose.

Shouldn't have been there? Again, maybe you should say that also about the US being in Iraq cause Russia had more reasons to be there unlike the US.

And of course I think it's pretty clear that many Georgian civilians were killed by Russia, no one is denying that.

Contrary to the thread title....Georgia did not attack Russia.

Georgia assaulted Russian supported South Ossetia. Which is an assault on Russia. Also, Russia can't gain anything from this war. While Georgia solves its territorial problem and joins NATO even if they lose.

Russian propaganda sounds like.

Whatever helps you sleep at night..

Last time I checked, SO was part of Georgia, no? Russia attacked Georgia.. and has now moved into undisputed Georgian territories.

SO was an independent country with its own government and elected leader. The world just didn't accept it. The entire population now has a Russian citizenship. Russia and Georgia have been working together to fight the violent seperatists in the Region, but when Georgia started shelling the city, Russia turned on Georgia.
