A regular MacBook won't cut it for anything more than flash games... you'll have to upgrade to the Pro for anything like that (and install Windows via Boot Camp)... but there's really no point not to get a PC laptop if you're looking to play games. The Pro CAN play games... I have Windows installed on mine, and I can run Crysis on medium (some high) settings without any problems or hiccups. It's just not the ideal platform for them.Dark__Link
I too am going to be getting a lapto for collge, i was wondering what the main difference is between a pro and a regular mac book :\ (please dont use to much jargon, im a compuer noob :( )
[QUOTE="AnObscureName"]Most PC games won't work on a Mac I'm afraid unless you have a way of running Windows as the OS.Ultima_5I think you can run windows as your operating system on macs . . . i think its called bootcamp yes but it's still not designed to play games so i don't think the gpu will be up to it
What's your price range? This laptop I'd recommend. NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GTS graphics with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete video memory, 200GB SATA hard drive (7200 rpm), 17" widescreen display with 1920 x 1200 resolution, 4GB DDR3 memory.
Get it here at Best Buy. I own one, a friend of mine got one for his b-day after I showed it to him, and it's very good for just about anything. Battlefield 2142, a FPS more advanced than Counter Strike, can run on the highest quality settings with no lag, but it does get hot around the fan, which there are three fans for this blazing fast system.
You can see a guy on YouTube test hardware demanding games on the very same laptop.

Better processor, better graphics card, and bigger screen... depending on which model of each you select. If you run intensive programs (video editing, Photoshop, etc.), then get the Pro. If you're just using the laptop for word processing, going online, talking to people, etc., then you don't need the Pro.[QUOTE="BobSacamento"]a macbook pro has a video card in it and a 15" screen
the regular macbook does not

Is the video card necessary if i dont plan to play games? (kinda sorry for hijacking this thread :P )
No. Integrated graphics can easily handle any Flash video or whatever you come across online... That's what it's designed to do.That's a good system but playing at 1920*1200 on that gpu might be a strugle on more demanding gamesWhat's your price range? This laptop I'd recommend. It's just not what the system is designed for... by any means.

No. Integrated graphics can easily handle any Flash video or whatever you come across online... That's what it's designed to do.Would it be able to run gimp ( the freeware image editing program ) ?

I really don't know.. but I'd assume it could handle it.What are your preferences? By this I mean what kind of games do you want to play? What will you be doing on this laptop? What's your preference for screen size? Desktop replacement? Portability? Good battery life? etc...
Also are you planning on any tasks like video editing or photoshop?
