Definitely not an explosion but certainly not straw burning either, probably a flammable factory material or something that burns incredibly hot and gives off lots of smoke.... maybe a rare earth refinery or something? I don't know and I doubt we'll ever know since it's China.

Looks like clouds at sunrise or sunset. Or maybe a huge plume of factory smoke that the sun's shining through. You'd see a lot of stuff that makes that look tame in comparison if you got up early enough in the morning.

Clearly it was simply one of these clouds passing through a large thunderstorm cell (all kinds of lighting strikes in the cell in video) at sunset.

And Beijing authorities had to provide a cover explanation such as "burning straw" for a common storm cloud?

AKA, thunderheads. We get those exact same clouds that look similar to mushroom clouds in the mountains here all the time. Especially durring the summer.

No but clearly the plume of cloud coverage is extended above the "mushroom" and it being sunset, the suns rays are yellow-orange and coming in from the side, illuminating that upper plume... That coupled with the edges of the "mushroom" extending out from the lower plume create darkness given that there is no sun directly above them and thus that yellow-orange lit upper plume is shining bright in the upper darkness of the plume because there is no other contrast...

And they didn't claim this was caused by burning straw, they claimed the strange colored haze in the area was caused by burning straw in response to internet posters claiming a chemical plant exploded and/or steel plant exploded...

I don't see any mushroom cloud in those images. Looks like it's late evening/early morining with the sun rising and causing the sky to turn reddish pink.
