He really didin't do anything.

so let's see here, Mel Gibson is all over TV for ranting verbal abuse over the telephone while Roman Polanski (that's right the one who admitted to statutory rape of a 13 year old) walks free after years in exile.....

here's a lovely quote from Mr Polanski back in '79:

""If I had killed somebody, it wouldn't have had so much appeal to the press, you see? But… f-ing, you see, and the young girls. Judges want to f- young girls. Juries want to f- young girls. Everyone wants to f- young girls!"

now you guys tell me what's worse, a man who said the word 'ni**er' or the man who stuck his wrinkly cactus inside a innocent 13 yeard old kid

Loco_Live

I'm pretty sure the little girl went on record saying she forgave the man a few years ago, so if she did, then I do too.

Forgiveness = Law? Just because he was forgiven does not mean he did not break the law - and is exempt from the punishment.

Never said I didn't think he should've been punished. That's neither here nor there for me. I don't really care about the issue because the girl doesn't care about it. So I'm not going to go out of my way to shake my fist and yell obscenities in protest because he was extradited.

I still say statutory rape is bs, though

JML897

You are a crazy person.

How is statutory rape BS? You think it's okay for a grown man to have sex with a 13 year old?

Like I said, sex is not this disgusting, vile, monstrous act of pure evil people make it out to be; in and of itself sex is perfectly harmless. The problem comes when irresponsible idiots end up getting STDs or unwanted pregnancies, but that doesn't mean sex is bad when handled responsibly, it just means people are idiots. As for rape, it's disgusting because no one should be forced to have sex against their will, but again, that doesn't mean sex in itself is disgusting.

what a sad life you lead........

zideeq

yeah, you're crying about some guy you don't know who lives on the other side of the earth and I'M the one with a sad life. you should learn that the media covers whatever the hot topic is and isn't relegated to what you personally see is more important.

Coming from someone who has relationship problems with his family and girlfriend....

seems you suck at life

mmhm, don't really see the connection there. i think you need to grow up a little bit to be honest.

What he did was sick and unlawful by any definitions, not only was she 13, but he got her drunk and used queludes on her, she still said no to him, and he still assaulted her. It's rape, plain and simple. That being said, he did comply with law enforcement, he did undergo court ordered psychiatric evaluation, and despite the evaluation reccomending nothing more than probation, the court seemed hell-bent on giving him more jail time. Furthermore, he has paid the entire sum of the civil suit and the plaintiff has asked that charges against him be dropped, not to mention it's the U.S.' fault that they didn't go about the extradition process correctly. I don't blame him at all for not coming back to the U.S.

The thread isn't, do you care about Roman Polanski. It's why is Roman Polanski not getting covered in the media as much as Mel Gibson. And my response is, why should you care?

You neglect to answer so you throw the question back at me. You might as well be trolling then. Why do I care? Justice. Nobody is above the law.

I did answer the first one. I think statutory rape is bs because of everything I said in my post.

I didn't neglect to answer anything and I don't really know what you're talking about. I didn't say Roman Polanski is above the law nor did I condone what he did. But if it's been long enough for the woman that was raped to forgive and forget, I don't think people should be harping over it because he was extradited halfway across the world. Again, the thread isn't does Roman Polanski deserve to be punished. That's a separate issue. The topic at hand is about media coverage. And the media covers what will garner the most attention and feedback from the public.

It's very simple; no one cares about Polanski anymore. He's old news. Gibson's scandal is yet another in a seemingly endless line of celebrities ruining their careers because of their own stupidity. The public loves these types of stories, whereas the Polanski debacle is decades old. Why would corporate news outlets choose an old story over a new one?

They're both jackasses, I think Polanski is a bit better cause the girl forgave him. Mel Gibson is still a bum though.

Actually, when it comes to rape, you need a complainant; someone to press charges. If she forgave him and formally dropped the charges, you have nothing more than a simple case study for Roman's lacking morals, but not a case against him for criminal charges.
