Girl who performed at Obama's inauguration shot dead in Chicago.

A 15-year-old girl who performed at President Obama's inauguration last week was shot dead Tuesday while hanging out with friends after school in bullet-scarred Chicago.

Hadiya Pendleton -- described by family as a walking angel -- was standing under a canopy in Vivian Gordon Harsh Park when a gunman ran down an alley, opened fire and fled in a white car, police said.

Pendleton was shot in the back but managed to run about a block before she collapsed, officer Laura Kubiak said. She died at the hospital.

A 16-year-old boy was wounded in the 2:20 p.m. incident. Police said Pendleton, who had no criminal record, was probably not the intended target.

Never in a million years did I think I would get a call that my own baby had been gunned down, Pendletons mother, Cleo Cowley, said through tears from her Chicago home.

Yes but I doubt the gang members were using a firearm registered to their name anyway. If you plan to shoot people it's best to use a gun the police can't track unless you are one of those homicide/suicide maniacs and simply don't care. This sounds like a gang shooting where the bullets missed the intended targets and hit some innocents. Unfortunately this happens all the time.

Living in the South Side of Chicago is rough, plus the Chicago Police Department has a huge shortage of officers, which is why these shootings keep happening. Gangs here have no respect of the community they live in, they only care about the "territory" they claim like a childrens games.

Instead of liberating nations far across the oceans the government should spend more resources on fighting the gang problem, border security and collaborating with Mexcio on the cartel problem. This is far more important to the future of America then who controls Iraq, Libya or Syria. Afghanistan could be justified but the resources for the rest could be better spent at home.

They sure have strange priorities. The Chicago police forces budget is $1.3 billion and spending was cut from the previous year. Foreign aid alone is $52 billion up from $16 billion in 2001 and $48 billion the previous year. I don't even want to know how much has been spent on the conflicts I mentioned over the years. If I remember correctly Iraq alone was about a trillion and that number was from years ago i think.

Let's not turn this into an anti-gun thing. I mean, obviously the killer would have found a way to accidentally kill this unintended target with a knife or baseball bat from across the park, with or without a weapon designed to near-instantly kill multiple people at long ranges. Duh.Planeforger
