Try to aim to be the valedictorian. Even if you don't make it, you can still end up high. Don't be disappointed if you don't become valedictorian. Just realize that you can do better.
Study. People will insist that you don't need to. Don't buy into this propaganda. It may seem to waste but so is everything else you do in high school besides hanging out with friends.
Join with a lot of organizations. This will look good on your college applications if you plan on attending college.
Make friends. There's no guarantee whether or not you'll know these people later in life, but they can be there as your support system if high school ever goes awry.
Make friends with the upper-classmen, since they already know the lay-out of the school and how things work there. It'll be a good learning experience and you'll have better knowledge of your surroundings.
Stay out of the drugs and alcohol fields, respectively.
Also, don't be pulled down by the bullcrap drama that happens 24/7. Just go to school for what your parents are paying you to do; study and learn. Don't go to school just to talk about who's-dating-who or why 'X' person is a jerk.
Get ready to lose the person you know yourself as now, because in at least 2-3 years, you'll have changed.Shiggums
This. Also, remember to have fun every now and then.

This. Also, remember to have fun every now and then.
All of this.
Don't get into fights.
Do your homework.
Try hard.
Don't be afraid to ask questions.
Umm.... I can't think of anything else right now. Good luck! :)
Get ready for some of the greatest years of you're life. If you're high school has any kinda of authenticity to it, you'll have plenty of groups to choose from as far as fitting in purposes are concerned. The range of lunches you can buy or things you can do for lunch widens beyond that of junior high and elementary school, and ect, ect.
The best thing I can tell you is to for the first week or two, get a feel where everyone's head is at first, and then after a while of getting adjusted to you're people and surroundings--get active and sign up for something to get and keep yourself acknowledged and open yourself up to meeting new people quickly--play "football", "basketball", "baseball" or something and get to know as many people as you can. Socializing will definitely play a big role in how much you enjoy high school so don't be a lame going into it.
Other things consist of showing some maturity, getting involved with as many girls as you can as far as building a strong line of close relationships with them goes, dress fashionably and most importantly, study hard and take care of you're business.
Prepare for drama.
The is pretty much the best response anybody can give you in this thread--this is completely unavoidable. But atleast it usually keeps things interesting.
Yeah you really have to remember that the vast majority of people change a lot througout high school. The people who you thought were your friends may end up being not so nice to you in the end. You should be prepared for that.ragek1ll589
- Study, because you don't want to get screwed out of your dream college because your GPA isn't high enough.
- Be open and friendly towards people, it's the easiest way to make friends.
- Don't be surprised if some people from middle school who were your friends act differently towards you or are not as close with you.
- Most importantly, have fun.
i say have fun. forget what these guys are saying. you only live one time and if all you do is study and stress about grades you will wish you had more good times. meet girls, do drugs, get drunk and then get into fights.
fail a few classes, piss off teachers, vandilize the school.. you will just become a sheep in a 9-5 grind eventually anyway so live happy now.

Well, pissing off teachers is always fun.....
Listen up, this will come in very handy.
First of all, don't listen to the people that say that high school is everything and you have to be somebody popular to be important. Popularity is nothing, trust me.
Do a lot of after school activities. Sports, clubs whatever. Colleges are looking for high spirited people.
Work your butt off! No lie, it pays off in the end. You need to do everything you can to maintain your grades up.
And last but not least, take it easy. It's just high school. Be vigilant but be easy ok?
Trust me, I'm a senior now and I wish people would've told me this back in freshman year.

Forget what anyone tries to tell you about high school, high school is a big lie, it doesnt do anything for your future, just a stupid requirement that everyone has to go through. Grades don't really matter, it is how you apply yourself at a job that does matter.SegaGenesisfan
Sure... if your career aspirations lie in the fast food industry.

Why make fun of your past self?
im not, im making fun of freshman
It's middle school with kids who can drive and sports teams. Don't pretend to be something you aren't to fit in with a certain crowd (you will notice a lot of people you knew before high school will do this in the first 1 or 2 years) by junior year you will not be who you were as a freshman and neither will anyone else be. Have fun, don't let your gpa go low because the only reason that happens is because you aren't trying (high school work is a joke compared to what you face afterwards). I got thru high school with a 3.4 by doing the minimal amount of work and I'm going into my 5th year of college towards a computer science degree with a 3.8 and the work is a thousand times more difficult. Don't fall into the trap of going to school and coming home to play video games/watch tv... show up to stuff. Made easier if you make friends with the kids who can drive, I recommend that. Also join some sports teams, you will make a lot of friends in different social circles and grades/classes... This can also be done by taking harder classes because older kids will be there. Also be prepared for the drama because a lot of the kids in high school have a mindset that nothing better is coming and live and breathe that place. (Funny later in life because you can look back and see they went nowhere afterwards) Don't let rumors and mean comments get to you, everyone seems to feel like putting other people down makes them feel better about themselves or will make them look better. Stand up for yourself and make the other people look bad if it happens. The End.
Edit: oh also, the friendships you make are important but don't let the drama consume you. they are important for those first four years, but afterwards a lot of them crumble and it's just not worth the extreme stress because when you leave you won't hear or see them more than few times a year once you move away from home and go to college. But stay friends with whoever you go away to college with, because that will be a good foundation to start freshmen year at college. :)
1. Don't procrastinate
2. Don't get in any relationships or you may be distracted from grades and/or your other friends. The phrase bros before hoes couldn't be more true. :P
3. If there are times where you have to decide between syaing something and not saying something, don't say anything. You may wonder afterwards how things would have been if you would've persisted. I have and it got me pretty much screwed over. :P
4. Expect to be backstabbed; a lot. Don't let it get to you.
5. Just try to have as much fun as physically possible because this is one of the weridest (and for many people the worst) time of your life.

Im sorry but i gotta say, alot of people are giving god awful advice, I mean stuff like "Joing this, join that" "STUDY STUDY STUDY"
High school is NOT important in your life other than to develope your social skills and to help identify with yourself. Really highschool is just a fun 4 years, that doesnt mean you get to slack off but you can if you want to . Just do whatever you want and let school and life take its toll. Do what you want, learn from your mistakes, and take responsibility for your actions.
Go for the hot chicks, drink, and smoke. Trust me I did none of that when I was in high school and I regret it.
bird-man
Are you sure you're not still in it?
Yeah, great advice, except not everyone gets a 2400 on their SAT and a perfect score on their GED to negate highschool if you plan to go to collegeIm sorry but i gotta say, alot of people are giving god awful advice, I mean stuff like "Joing this, join that" "STUDY STUDY STUDY"

Prepare for drama.Zaeryn
High school drama is so stupid... Last semester, some girl I knew was going around the school with transcripts between her and some other kid in which he called her a (female dog) over AIM. I was like, "O NO, someone swore at you over the Internet!!1!" I facepalm every time I see or hear about high school drama...
Also, don't drop the soap.
Don't expect to be the same person by the time you reach grade 11, it is then when you'll know who you exactly are. Be nice, don't be fake. Friends, parties, drinking, drugs are all a part of the experience, but know how to have control with it. It's okay if you smoke weed on the weekends or something, but do NOT do it at school and do not let anything distract you from your actual schoolwork. Make lots of friends but focus on school. You'll lose a lot of friends, but you'll gain new ones. Drama is stupid, avoid it. Never exclude people for who they are, never turn on one of your friends over a girl...trust me
In all honesty though, when you enter highschool, all this advice will just wash out of your head and you'll just naturally adjust and find things out for yourself. It's not about people telling you what to avoid, it's about you learning for yourself what to avoid.
