The most recent one I discovered was The Mars Volta a couple of months ago. Get Deloused in the Comatorium and Frances the Mute, as both rock.

I must say this last year was like a rennasaince for music for me. I can't begin to tell you how many different bands I started listening too.

As for very recent stuff, Opeth and Katatonia are the 2 bands I got into recently. Opeth is quite possibly the most talented band playing today overall. Katatonia are definitely the best songwriters out there now.
