[QUOTE="Pyro767"]Fine, if it is a conspiracy, prove it. Go there right now and sign up with the cash for clunkers. Do it now and prove me wrong.GabuEx

I neither am an American nor do I own a car.

But more to the point, are you seriously telling me that we're supposed to take the say-so of some random unnamed guy who could very well be either paranoid or full-on schizophrenic that he somehow knows the government has taken full control of his computer as a result of signing up for the Cash for Clunkers program? I mean, really?

No, I'm saying you should probably believe Beck's live demonstration of it.

You have to actually use it. It won't happen otherwise, go to dealer support and try to prove me wrong.

Well, I did a little research, and this only concerns dealers. I'm still doing some research but I'm starting to smell sensationalism.

Oh brother.

This is just a standard end-user licence agreement, which is poorly worded on account of the fact that it uses the word "system" twice. If one takes off the tinfoil hat for asecond, one will realize that"this system" in the third sentence is referring to the CARS system, not your home computer. It's just saying that during the time at which you are logged onto their website, your activity will be monitored - so don't do anything illegal on the site, silly. Beck clearly completely glosses over the part that qualifies all following statements with "when logged on to the CARS system" - i.e., when not logged on to the CARS system, everything stated in the agreement is not in effect.

I'd complain that it's as if no one has ever read a EULA before, but then again, a lot of people probably haven't. :P

Agreed. It's these czars, they're evil people, they're trying infiltrate American home computers. To what end, I have no idea, but they're up to something nefarious, of that I can be sure!

Dude , I don't have anything bad on my computer which could get me in trouble from the government so why should I worry? Also I don't think the government going to give me in trouble for going on sites like redtube.

George Orwell is probably spinning in his grave at how conspiracy theorists are taking 1984 like the Bible.

Yeah, because Glenn Beck is EVIL! You know, he does give us some credible information sometimes.

Like when he says his name is Glenn Beck? (though admittedly, he has yet to produce a birth certificate verifying this claim)

You're my hero. That was excellent.

Unless you are crazy or just that dumb, DON'T DO THIS!

I was watching some Glenn Beck (yes, I know OT hates him, get over it) and he showed his audience something absolutely terrifying. Apparentaly, on a site called cars.gov, if you use that system to complete "Cash for Clunkers", it is possible for the government to legally take over your computer. They are apparentally allowed access to all of your files and activities and they can do whatever they want with it and send it to whoever they want. I haven't tested it, but I don't want to. If you have the balls to confirm this, go ahead.

Just some examples, the government can see all the sites you visit, the things you buy online, and even listen in on things like Skype calls LEGALLY.

1) Why does it matter? what are they going to find and actually care about thats so private? 2) They just stopped that thing apparently because its working too well =P 3) That sounds like BS in general lol.

It seems some of you don't understand. The government will be able to monitor everything you do on your computer with this. And if you use programs like Skype, AIM, Hotmail, G-Mail, they can see and hear all of it. ALL of it. This means that you have no more secrets, they have invaded your life. Plus, they can redistribute this information to anybody they want.Pyro767
What are they going to do with a recorded conversation of any of us? They dont give a **** what we say dude.. if we arent terrorists, we are just normal people, simple as that -_- stop freaking.

Still, I guess some people are pretty uptight about losing their privacy despite them not having anything to hide. Like what the Patriot Act showed. This stuff is legitimately freak-worthy.

I wouldn't worry about the government.. Congress itself isn't very sinister.. I'd worry about the agencies working under the authority of the government without regulations.

Anyways, if you have something of value, or are a threat to their ways.. then it doesnt matter what you do.. because unless you're a really powerful person with money and social allies.. you're screwed. SO, in the mean time, don't run around being afraid. It's waste of time and I hate fear mongering.

If the government was actually planning on and capable of taking over every single person's computer and monitoring every single person's every move, then yes, that would be rather freak-worthy.

I would prefer to save that freak until that is actually happening, though. :P

The government can already do that, it doesn't take a conservative shock-jock, or a liberal one for that matter, to convince me of this. It's called the Draft.

As were the Japanese-Americans during the Second World War, and many of them were basically imprisoned simply because their ancestors came from the wrong place. If the government can do something as evil as locking someone up simply because of their ancestors or place of birth, they most certainly care about what we say and do. So long as the government has an agenda other than actually serving the people, it will care about what we say and do. Indeed, if it didn't why do we have things like the FCC and political correctness?

I find it hard to believe the government could afford to keep track of so many people, especially since 90% of the browsing histories would be "porn, porn, myspace, porn, wikipedia, porn, youtube, porn". Why would they spend money to monitor crap like that?
