I need to watch more films by him. I've only seen Solaris, and it was fantastic.

The secret to being a famous film director? Have a last name that ends with a "ee" sound at the end, or have a K and/oror Y in your last name.

Yeah, making quality films is a relatively meagre step in comparison.

That is a tough question. I guess if I had to I would narrow it down to these chaps.

1. Ingmar Bergman

2. Roman Polanski

3. Terry Gilliam

4. Akira Kurosawa

5. Werner Herzog

He didn't direct Nightmare before Christmas. That was Henry Selick. I'm not sure why everyone thinks Burton directed it.

George Lucas. Star wars outclasses most movies.

arad96

Alot of ppl don't seem to know this for some reason but George Lucas didn't direct all the movies. Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi were both directed by other people. That doesn't mean Lucas wasn't heavily involved, but he was not director. He did however direct Episodes 1-4 tho.

In any case, my FAVORITE directors are Scorsese and Chris Nolan, are they the greatest? I dunno, just my fav.

yeah he didn't but he did co-write it and had a HUGE role in the art direction, which was amazing in that movie. same thing with james and the giant peach, another classic animated film. he may have lost some of his touch but don't be mistaken, burton is the ****in man.

my top three would be the coens, kubrick, and peckinpah. some directors that might make it in once i see more of their films would be kurosawa (ive seen 4 of his films and they were all truly great), cronenberg, and polanski.

[QUOTE="t3hrubikscube"]How quaint! I actually created my own top 10 list just a few days ago. 1. Alfred Hitchcock 2. David Cronenberg 3. Roman Polanski 4. Coen brothers 5. Martin Scorsese 6. Francis Ford Coppola 7. Ingmar Bergman 8. Frank Capra 9. Stanley Kubrick 10. Paul Thomas Anderson

Nice list. Though I don't think P.T. Anderson should be up there just yet. Also, ten is not enough. As I can already think of three who deserve to be recognized but shouldn't really be replacing anyone else on that list. I'm thinking Kurosawa, Miyazaki and Tarkovsky.

Because it oozes his "style". Along with every other movie he's ever been involved with. Also, along with public restrooms.

Well Joss Whedon is just starting to get into movie directing. He has about 2 movies on the way in the next couple years. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Joss Whedon will be my favorite director. Twenty years down the line, you will realized I was a genius and could predict the future. My current favorite director is the Wachowski Brothers. Matrix and V for Vendetta. Nuff said.
