What movies would be considered the greatest ever? This includes foreign movies, and I'm looking at more of a universally critically acclamied, influential, artistic perspective. Some movies I think for consideration are:

The Godfather, The Gofather Part 2, Cassablanca, The Seven Samurai, The Bicycle Theif, Children of Paradise, Rashomon, High and Low, The Battle of Algiers, Lawrence of Arabia, 8 1/2.

I have not seen all these films, but these are films I often hear mentioned as the greatest and the ones I have seen I consider the greatest. So I would like more opinions on which films are the top of the top.

Shaun of The Dead is great dude, easily one of the best zombie films ever made. There really isnt anything WRONG with Shaun at all.

great list, but Enter the Dragon? it does not stand the test of time at all. acting is wooden, action is dull, plot is non-existent, i don't see what makes it great.

Thats not true, that was Bruce Lee's last movie.. He had many movies before it.. Its just the fact he was unknown more or less a sa movie start intil that movie...

That being said I think Master and Commander is up there.. Its one of my all time favorite movies witha authentic feel.. Amazing acting, unique and realistic characters, and a overall authentic feel to the time period.. Its a shame too because it bombed at the box office, which is depressing knowing we will never see a sequel for it.

I meant first great in the sense that it did well. I know Bruce Lee put out more films, he is like one of my heroes. Fist of Fury ftw (aka Chinese Connection)

there are plent of great actors in rubbish films. it may have been the first, but it just isnt a great movie in it own respect. if it was released today, no one would look twice. you can bet they would at the godfather tho. i dont think a film can be called one of the greatest movies ever if it doesnt stand the test of time at all.

Well Drama is such a genre where if you release a flawless film then it will stand the test of time. Other genres are not like that, if Halloween were released today it would flop, if Jaws were released it would flop...I just dont think thats a fair argument.

Great Dictator because not only is it genius but it was also VERY controversial and I love me some controversy. Chaplin had some guts to do that one.

some others to add to your list are citizen kane (duh), 2001: a space odyssey, king kong (original), and youll need some french new wave in there too. im not sure which film is noted for starting the trend and its arguable about the best example of the movement. however, id lend the 400 blows to the discussion.

Other movies that leap to mind.. The Warriors and Interview with a Vampire.. Both i would consider cult classics and quite unique in their own regards.
