While I am not really a fan of rap music besides that which was recorded before 1993, my sense of national pride is kicking in when it comes to the current rap music threads.

It would appear that nobody ever mentions grime artists in any of these threads. So I'm wondering if people are actually familiar with grime. I am on a basic level, but my interest doesn't really delve much further than that.

I am however interested to here the thoughts of rap fans on grime music.

Personally, I prefer it to current American rap artists, mainly because I can relate to the words more, but it will be interesting to see if American listeners cannot relate to it as much as American rap.

Here are some basic (because I really don't have a very deep knowledge of the genre, and I'm sure someone with one will post other tunes) grime songs to get you started:

Police on My Back - Lethal Bizzle

Fix Up Look Sharp - Dizze Rascal

The Avenue - Roll Deep

Are you a fan of rap music, and second why do you think so?

I'm interested to find out if it is a lyrical barrier that causes this or just a general dislike or what.

Grime is godawful, I really can't stand it. That N-Dubz group are the biggest losers, especially the really skinny little white one with the annoying voice. Uhh I wish someone would exterminate them. Grime is pretty bad yes.

There are a lot of undergroudn grime artist who are big, try Skepta, JME, Devlin, Wiley's older stuff. In my eyes its more bareable than the 'MC' music that is more popular in North England, you see in the South its Grime, 16 beats (I think) to a bar so its quite quick. Whilst MC is even faster but also more spoken then Grime which is done is a faux Jamacain descended accent. MC also is usally a lot less serious and about getting drunk ect. Youtube Blackout Crew if you dare xD

I'm listening to the streets right now...but as a general rule, I find british "rap" to be lacking... However, I like the mellow attitude that the brits have towards it all. Hip-Hop that I like includes: (come correct all genre freaks) The Roots Shihan Beastie Boys The Procussions Sweatshop Union Giant Panda Generally speaking...there is an emphasis on mellow, flowing lyrics with a large jazz influence at least that's how i see it...

Grime is behind American rap by about 10 years or more. Their style of rap is more like what the American style of rapping was in the very early 90's. Their beats are also very simple and not as good. American rappers now have more "showmanship".. it's hard to explain it.. but it's like swagger on record. American rap has much better production. Basically, grime is behind American rap by about 10 years, it's beats are more simplistic, production is lacking, and the whole genre is lacking.

Having said that, I do like some songs..

Never really listened to it; it's not really popular here in the states at all, and most of the music sites I visit don't cover it.

Dubstep, though... that's pretty damn good.

Im not a big fan, but I like some of it. I would rather take grime over the majority of the stuff that comes out of America nowerdays.

And im not sure if this

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=4gNfvU7lTyI

counts as grime, but it's british, involves some kind of rapping and I love it :P

Once I was at a friend of mines party and all these chavs turned up and put it on, it was so weird the frst time I heard it.
