[QUOTE="MrPraline"]barry o knows he cannot really touch guns so instead he focuses on silly red herrings like the ar-15 and other sporting rifles. while that wouldn't put a dent in any of the statistics he pretends to be so worried about. what a joke.airshocker

They also don't want to admit that NICS is a heaping pile of sh*t.

Yeah, also a red herring.

Yeah, also a red herring. MrPraline

NICS can work, it just gets overwhelmed. I have no doubt people who shouldn't be allowed to buy firearms end up buying them because it takes so long for NICS to do a check on their name.

lol, here is one guaranteed to upset everyone no matter what side they are on.

what does the current rifle hysteria have in common with the wars in afghanistan and iraq.

both are just revenge carried out against people that had nothing to do with the original action that inspired the interventions.

why else would we go after people and things that are not a significant part of the overall problem?

it's cool though, it is just our nature to lash out and exact revenge whether or not it fixes anything or punishes the guilty.

the result and the logic is unimportant just the sweet sweet satisfying revenge.

Riverwolf007

Well in theory,  the Taliban government in Afghanistan sheltered and enabled Al Qaeda.

Perhaps that's somewhat similar to the way that the NRA enables murderous individuals to have easy access to deadly weapons(by its opposition to any and all gun control).  NRA is the propaganda wing of the gun industry.  Gun owners furnish the profits of the gun industry.

The difference here is no one is going to dismantle the NRA and send their members to Gitmo.  You really can't equate the suffering of the Afghan people with the totally nonexistent 'punishment' of gun owners.  Any hysteria that exists is purely on the part of, and manifested in the paranoia of the gun nuts.  They are the ones sending an armed militia to the capital.  Any opposition to their agenda has been soberly pessimistic and utterly limp-wristed.

I think everyone who buys a gun should have a background check and a safety cIass to learn how to properly handle a gun and when it would be appropriate to use.

It would give veterans and retired cops a decent job.

This sounds reasonable... It would add jobs and could limit the amount of criminals obtaining guns if the crime is severe enough. Firing a gun is easy but safety is paramount.

As for the OP, I sympathize with the protesters and hope they don't do anything stupid. The last thing anyone wants is another shooting by some dumb idiot.

Idiots.... I know it says loaded, but I hope they at least they have enough sense to walk out there with the rifles unloaded. All it takes is one mistake of a weapon misfiring for a catastrophe to potentially occur....

Carry loaded weapons is certainly illegal and a dumb idea, especially in the capitol. Carrying unloaded weapons is not, although I have not idea if that changes if you are part of a protest.

You know... this really doesn't help anyone in the long run, especially them. They'll be turned away and/or arrested for carrying loaded weapons in public, and if they avoid a mass shooting and manage to avoid legal action, they'll try to use this as a way to show that their rights are being taken away, even though carrying unconcealed rifles, let alone LOADED unconcealed rifles, has been a taboo, and illegal, in most places for years.

What scares me is that, if this happens, there will droves of idiots who will heed their bullshit call.

I'm not really stating anything none of us already know, but if they go through with this, it will be the last straw for many people.

They're not even gonna do it unless they get 10,000 participants. And if they get 10,000 participants, there's no possible way that more than a small percentage of them will get arrested.

Just checked. Open carry is not permitted within the boundaries of DC. They will be arrested upon brandishing weapons.

Quite dumb really. They are only proving they cannot read the law.

Just humoring the obvious sarcasm.

The people who live in DC decided that it was in their best interest to give up their rights. People from outside the region have to submit themselves to the laws of the region. That's how the nation works.

You don't even have any legal say in law until you've lived in an area for a certain amount of days. This is so you cannot just cross political boundaries and cast your vote.

what's funny is their crime of bringing guns in the DC area will probably mean they'll have their rights to own firearms taken from them, and they'll bitch and moan about their freedoms to own weapons taken away from them for being criminally disobedient in their attempt to stop the government from taking their guns, which would be such a hoot since the government has no intention of taking their guns away until they bring it upon themselves

Yes it is.  At least, northern californian is.

I forgot what president it was, but it was one of our earlier ones, and he said "When I want to go out west, I go to Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, and so forth.  When I want to go west of the west, I go to California".  California has always been something special, past and present.

The company I work for is HQ'd in California, but is expanding in Chicago.  I ask some of my coworkers how they enjoyed Chicago (some have lived there), they say its one of their favorite places in the world, then they tell me all these great stories.  I then ask them if they'd ever leave California and head back there for work, and they've all said "**** no" lol.

If California is not worthy of bragging about, I don't know what is :P

[QUOTE="RandoIphF"] If their was 10,000 of them with loaded rifles they would likely be met at the border of DC by a lot more than just the DC police.

Doesn't matter. If they were all to be arrested (which ain't gonna happen), the military would have to be brought in. Thousands of armed soldiers would have to round up American citizens at gunpoint. And that ain't gonna happen, because the amount of force it would take to arrest every protester would just escalate matters simply by their mere presence. The one thing that needs to not happen here is this turning into a gigantic bloodbath. Don't get me wrong, I don't think this march is ever going to happen. But if it does, and there are 10,000 American citizens marching on DC carrying loaded rifles, the LAST thing anyone needs to do is to try to arrest everyone for breaking the law. Yes, they broke the law, big f***ing deal. Let them do it, and only intervene if it's absolutely positively necessary. Why? Because trying to round up ewvery one of these protesters for violating open carry laws drastically increases the odds of some protester using violent resistance. And that's the last thing that anyone wants, because that's the exact same kind of thing that has a very good chance of turning this into a bloodbath. Not worth it. Best case scenario, the protesters are told to go home and that's the end of it. But no one is gonna dare try to arrest every single one of these protesters (even if they're already breaking the law) because that has the very real potential of turning this into "10,000 protesters participated in an illegal protest and were told to go home" into "5,000 people are dead as an illegal protest erupted in violence when police and military tried to arrest every protester for violating gun carrying laws". Don't you see that that's part of the reason why this protest isn't even gonna go forward unless they get at least 10,000 participants? The sheer scale of this thing is designed to ensure that absolutely nobody f***s with them. If anybody f***s with them, that increases the chances of this turning into a bloodbath, which increases the chances of this turning into "thousands of protesters were shot dead by the US military". And that sort of $*** just breeds anti-government sentiment, as we saw with Waco and Ruby Ridge.

They should be scared of the fallout from having to gun down (potentially a lot of) armed protesters, absolutely. "American citizens gunned down by police and military" is absolutely not the kind of $*** that people tend to approve of. Yes, it obviously depends on the details, but it's still a big f***ing risk. Trying to arrest 10,000 armed citizens for violating gun carrying laws is stupid for the exact same reason that it's stupid to assemble 10,000 armed citizens in an illegal protest in the first place. Either way, it's pointless escalation and any potential benefits are far outweighed by the potential consequences of things going bad. If this protest happens (and again, I seriously doubt that it will), then the police and military absolutely need to be careful as $***. Just as it potentially only takes one dumbass protester to ignite a powder keg, it potentially only takes one police officer to turn this into a bloodbath. If anyone is gonna try to go in and arrest anyone, it needs to be for something a bit more serious than "violating open carry laws". That $*** is small potatoes when you're dealing with a mod of 10,000 armed people.

Maybe they won't arrest anybody or just a couple but you cannot let a protest of this nature go unsupervised. You need to bring overwhelming force if just to stand idle by and let them know that it isn't in their best interest to escalate the situation even further.

You know what, scrap that, they should just bring overwhelming force and arrest anybody, peacefully. Can't embolden them and set precedent. Usually on civil disobedience protests there is coordination between the group doing the protest and law enforce and they basically reach an agreement on how every is to go down and they go through the motions. But that would require responsible leadership and strict discipline.

Maybe they won't arrest anybody or just a couple but you cannot let a protest of this nature go unsupervised. You need to bring overwhelming force if just to stand idle by and let them know that it isn't in their best interest to escalate the situation even further. Master_Live
Of course you have a police (and given the scale of this, surely military as well) presence there. But like you said, purely supervisory. The smart thing to do is to bring them there and have them stand back just in case $*** goes down. But trying to arrest them is absolutely insane.
