guys feel you have a hard time relating to peers because of your nerdiness?

Ok so maybe not everyone here is a nerd. :P But I would assume nerds are in fairly high population here based on experience. Anyway I have recently met a girl who I get along with great and it has shocked me because I've realized how awfully I actually do get along with other kids. It's like I had no idea there were other kids I could actually really like and get along with. What about you guys ?

My favorite jokes are the ones I must explain for people to understand. In fact, most of my jokes are easily overlooked because I often make them for my own humor's sake under my breath.

Usually this is because I make references that I only get, enjoy interpreting statements outside of their intended meaning, love puns, fantasize about awkward yet accurate grammar, and like sarcasm (not rude sarcasm, but hyperbole, exaggeration, irony, etc. that does not belittle others).

However, I find that the more I make jokes such as these, the more positive my results. As a result, my non-relating nerdiness and social awkwardness causes people to (somehow) enjoy my presence and relate to me all the more. Either I make them feel better about themselves or I am by nature the incarnation of awesome. Within the fantasy world I have created for myself I lean towards the latter option.

Though I enjoy "nerdy humor" that is not always understood by others, people tend to listen if only for the rare one they might understand.

No, but I have a feeling that most of my trivial knowledge is pretty esoteric to them.

Video games aren't my only interest, so no, I don't have a problem relating to people.

Nope - my inner nerd is very private and I only usher it out on these very boards. My friends/peers don't realise I harbour such inner geekiness.

I just kind of embrace my geekyness. I don't really know the difference between the two, but you hear of tech geeks as opposed to tech nerds. I have become very comfortable just being myself and it feels good to just let go and be myself around others.

So in that way it's pretty easy to relate to other people.

These days I like to embrace my "geekiness" but most of the time some people can't tell if I am one. When I do find somebody who understands me. We will totally nerd the place up. Being a geek is fun, its different...to me everybody else needs to let loose and stop being so superficial and boring. :/

Nooo, because my geekiness or nerdiness hardly defines me, and I do have other interests.

In high school, yeah. In university, there's a lot more people to try to relate to :P
